Leeds United v QPR 4th October 2023 at Elland Road please log in to view this image It’s good to sleep on things for me as it means I put the dismal display at Southampton to the back of my mind and concentrated on the next game. As always, I make my decisions by what I see on the pitch on the day and was looking forward to getting back to winning ways. Although the game wasn’t a classic and frustrating at times, we got the win and three points which was the main thing. After getting away from Elland Road quite quickly, I was brought down to earth when stuck in queues of traffic due to the M1 going down to one lane. Not a good thing when over 30,000 fans are leaving a home game at Elland Road. I was only going that way as I’m still being mum’s taxis with my daughter still recovering from major surgery. Team: Meslier, Ayling, Rodon, Struijk, Byram, Summerville, Rutter, Piroe, Gray, Anthony (first start), Ampadu. Subs: Bamford for Piroe (65), James for Anthony (65), Poveda for Summerville (80), Cresswell for Rutter (90). Subs not used: Darlow, Cooper, Gelhardt, Kamara, Gruev. Leeds won the game 1-0 with Summerville scoring the goal (9). Attendance: 32,663 with approximately 800 QPR fans. Referee: David Webb. Booked: None from Leeds. Sent off: QPR keeper Begovic. Leeds got off to a great start taking an early lead. Sam Byram battled to win the ball passing it to Rutter. Rutter once again showing excellent composure, sent a great ball through for Summerville on the right-hand side of the goal to put the ball into the net. We were unlucky not to get a second goal shortly after when Rutter again, sent a pass into the penalty area for Summerville but this time his shot was blocked. I thought the game petered out and became subdued which reflected in the crowd, as it was very quiet at times. That said, QPR didn’t really give us many problems and we coped well with everything. It was good to hear the half time whistle blow though, and the good thing was we were still in the lead. The second half saw QPR make a double substitution and although they were livelier, Leeds were in control for large parts of the game. When they brought their last subs on, to me that’s when I thought they started to look more dangerous with Meslier making his first save of the game to keep them out. He made a second save later on but on the whole wasn’t really troubled. Farke then brought Bamford and James on to replace Piroe and Anthony and we started to get on top. Rutter sent a fantastic ball over the top for Bamford to run onto and hit a great shot that the keeper put out for a corner. Their keeper made a couple of other saves too before he came to the edge of his area as Bamford had beaten the defence. When Bamford sent the ball over his head, he launched himself at Bamford and brought him down. Apparently, there has been a lot of conflict over the sending off, but the intent was there to bring him down. The referee had blown for an earlier foul when Bamford had jumped in the air, and despite him not touching anyone, I assumed that was because if he had connected with their nearby player, the intent was there. The atmosphere certainly livened up with the sending off of their keeper telling him it was time to go. They had used all their subs too so were down to 10 men as Leeds saw the game out to get the win and the three points. Getting the psychological win after the Southampton game should stand us in good stead going forward as we have our second home game in a row on Saturday against Bristol. Heidi, you were in the Kop, weren't you? Wonder if you noted the ref getting a second card out and aimed at their 'keeper. Think it was another red, but we couldn't make it out. It deffo happened, we watched it, & it was before the ref went over to show a yellow to their bench. I know it's academic as the red has been (wrongly) rescinded (chest-height studs are intent, so it should have stuck).

Yip, did see all that, but it was in between both that you mention, perhaps 2 mins after the initial red, he pulled another card before the 'keeper went off. A load of us witnessed it & wondered if he's got a second red, so it's not just me that observed the 'second red'. Wish it had been on the tv, as I'd have a recordeing to check. Can't believe it was a 'reiteration' card.
