Why is an NHS trust offering reparations for slavery links?

This does seem like a strange question to have to ask. The failing Communist Health Service was founded long after slavery ended. Indeed, this country was one of the fundamental forces in ending the slave trade, even though it was not us doing the slave trading.

I thought that campaigning was not allowed on election days. It seems that there were a lot of well known Labour MPs on Twitter this morning encouraging people in Rutherglen and Hamilton West to go out and vote for someone called Shanks. Jocks on that patch have a choice of another delusional Nationalist SNP incompetent or a delusional UK Labour incompetent.

My guess is that there is quite a long NHS waiting list in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West constituency. So since NHS Scotland is currently under the control of the SNP, it seems like an act of stupidity voting to keep them in office if you live there. The problem is that the alternative is an MP who has no power to do anything about it.

The “crime against humanity” for which reparations should be due is surely much more recent than some long dead Edinburgh surgeon who had some slaves on his Jamaican plantation. What about the total waste of NHS Scotland fiscal recourses on diversity, inclusivity and slavery reparations rather than using the money to treat sick people who are still alive.

Whichever ‘Thinktank’ has currently got its hand up the Rishi Sunak puppet, it clearly is not one that knows anything about the history of prohibition.

When “The Prohibition” started a century ago in the United States, the Black Market racketeers took over supplying alcohol and the real loser was the government, no longer getting any sales or production taxes and passing control of the market to crime syndicates.

So how will trying to up the age at which tobacco products can legally be purchased stop teenagers from trying them? They will just need older brothers, sisters or friends to purchase them. Or, of course, they will obtain them from the Black Market, which will see the government lose out on the tax revenues that they currently collect.

Back in the dim and distant past when there were no mobile phones and we used slates and chalk, those wishing to smoke simply gathered behind the bike sheds as somebody had some smokes they got from their older brother. I never tried myself as I stupidly believed all that science guff about it leading to cancer and respiratory diseases.

    <doh> Too many pies...

But you can have a gastric band fitted to do something about it – I have seen them advertising the places that do it as “weight loss clinics”. <laugh>

Labour smashed the by-election. Some great politics if you like politics but I respect it’s Khan Friday and the real story is the SNP losing anyway.

Well done to the Tories and Reform just about getting enough votes between them to have held onto a deposit.
