That's not the issue, it's the distance between the countries! Obviously group games will be played in the same area but then you could go to another continent to play the first knockout match. Terrible for both players and fans.

It's only the first three games being played in South America though right?

Morocco and Spain, though different continents, are closer geographically than England and France.

Yep, my bad for not reading it properly. I assumed they were splitting it over the continents equally.

Convenient way for FIFA to clear the path for Saudi Arabia (or potentially China) to host the 2034 WC. In one go they take out three entire continents from being able to bid, in addition to North/Central American countries already being unable to. Doesn't exactly leave too many obvious options. Australia maybe.

It's only the first 3 games in South America, and in distance terms, it's a short hop to Morocco from Spain

It's still ****ing ridiculous. Should have been a South American one full stop but I'm guessing the money wasn't there perhaps, and they still wanted to have a game in Uruguay for the 100 year anniversary.

Presumably that's 6 automatic qualifiers too which is a bit of a farce.

How many spots do they get in the 48 team version? It's 4.5 currently and will surely make a farce of qualifying if half their spots are already taken.

Surely it won't be more than 6? They've only got 10 teams ffs.

They hopefully don’t get any, I mean for one game surely they can’t.

Turns out Blatter was absolutely streets ahead of Infantino, I didn’t think him being deposed would make things better but I certainly didn’t expect it to get this much worse.

He was arrogant and utterly corrupt, but he knew not to mess with the formula.

Are they being drugs tested? I suspect PED usage. How are these players performing at this level <laugh>

According to the beeb all 3 will automatically qualify which is crazy.

South America get 6.5 spots at a 48 team world cup and therefore half of their guaranteed slots are already decided before a ball is kicked in qualifying. The fact 6/7 out of just 10 teams will qualify is absurd in itself.

    Farcical.

Is pretty incredible how they've gone from relegation favourites to beating PSG in less than two years, oil money or not.

Particularly I think when you consider that they still regularly play a lot of the players that they already had or players that they initially bought, I had assumed as stepping stone level of players to get them out of trouble at the bottom of the PL and more solid, before being replaced by higher quality players for the push to be a title contender.

I would argue that Eddie Howe, rather than oil money, has played the biggest part in their turnaround.
