Swansea v Norwich Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 4 October 2023 Kick off - 19:45pm Following their impressive 3-0 away win at Millwall, next up for Michael Duff’s improving Swansea squad is a home match against promotion hopefuls Norwich City. Last Saturday, Jamal Lowe, Matt Grimes and Mykola Kuharevich all netted as the Swans earned their first away win of the season in style at Millwall. Lowe fired beyond Bartosz Białkowski from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute after Jerry Yates was fouled by Jake Cooper. Grimes then drilled beyond the Polish goalkeeper on 57 minutes. Kuharevich netted his first goal for the club 11 minutes from time to seal back-to-back successes. The defeat - Millwall's fourth of the campaign - saw the Lions drop to 15th in the Championship table, whilst the Swans climbed to 19th. Whilst the Swans were winning at The New Den, Norwich were ending a run of three straight defeats as they beat Birmingham City with two quickfire strikes at Carrow Road. Gabriel Sara headed the Canaries in front on 55 minutes before Jonathan Rowe settled the outcome just five minutes later. After losing at home to Leicester City, and the previous weekend's 6-2 humiliation at Plymouth, plus the midweek Carabao Cup exit at Fulham, Norwich badly needed the win. The Swans have played the Canaries on 59 previous occasions, winning 24, losing 25 and drawing 10. In the corresponding match last season, the Canaries ran out 1-0 winners: The referee on Wednesday evening is Tom Nield who will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Matthew Jones, with James Linnington the 4th Official for the game. The West Yorkshire official started refereeing as a teenager when he was still playing local football. He took charge of his first National League game in October 2015 and was promoted to the National List of assistant referees in May 2013 at the age of 22. Nield made his Championship debut in the 2022-2023 season with West Brom’s 1-0 home win against Reading and was also part of the referee exchange programme that included him doing three leagues in Japan’s J League in March of this year. He will be a familiar name to many football fans as the the EFL referee who spoke about his “gruelling” work as an emergency nurse during the Covid pandemic when he took on the role of a senior nurse/matron with the Acute & Emergency Service at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. This will be the very first time that Tom Nield will have officiated a Swans match. On Wednesday evening, the Swans will be without defender Kristian Pedersen, in addition to Joe Allen, Josh Ginnelly and Nathan Wood while Yates may also be missing after being replaced at half time at Millwall after suffering a dead leg. Despite these absentees, I’m going for a 2-1 home win
I'd be happy with a draw. Unlike me, I'm not getting carried away with those two wins. There's still no way to say if Duff's getting on top of things - yet.
I’d agree - looking back at the Millwall match, it struck me that if they’d had our keeper, and we had theirs, we’d have lost ….

Captain Matt Grimes lines up alongside Charlie Patino in midfield, with Jamal Lowe, Jamie Paterson and Liam Cullen providing support for Yates in the final third.
