Sorry, what I'm suggesting is that the consequences for this have to be SO big that VAR in its' current form has to have a complete reset. What is blatantly obvious now with this system is: - There are no established processes for clarity - There are idiots involved in it who refuse to go against even one iota of a pre-written rulebook (in this case, that the match couldn't be stopped 15 seconds after the mistake) - There is a complete lack of competency in refereeing in this country - There are no clear defined rules as to what "clear and obvious" means - The application of the technology is by people who are either incompetent, incapable or just not getting sufficient training The over-arching issue for me is that none of this can be solved; you can't have ex-pros involved because of deep rooted issues like gambling, favouritism, etc. Could you really trust the snap judgement of Paul Merson?! You can't suddenly make officials competent. You can't define "clear and obvious" as has been proven time and again. The point was to remove human error. All we've done is taken human error and moved it to Stockley Park - is it really anything more than deflecting fans ire from people they can see to people they can't? Because I don't think VAR has achieved anything else - still strewn with errors, still badly implemented, still unsolvable.
The only explanation I can for of why they released the audio is because they wanted to make it obvious a human error had occurred, as many would believe a mistake that bad was a result of a biased official.
Klopp asking for a replay shows just how much of a little cry baby he really is. There were never replayed games before VAR, even when TV proved the onfield decisions were wrong. There have been no replayed games since the introduction of VAR, even when everyone has said a VAR decision was wrong. What dies he think makes this one different? What? It went against Liverpool? Oh right, sorry sir, well then of course you can have a replay.
Listening again, the absolute worst thing about it is the fact the operator bloke keeps repeatedly trying to tell the OFFICIALS that they've ****ed up, but they dilly and dally rather than leaping up and shouting "wait, stop, stop the game". If Darren England just does that, it's a minor hiccup, but when you watch it back nobody can complain - THAT is human error. What he does instead by freezing is to show he, and the system, are both incompetent and flawed.
It's the perfect thing to ask for, in my opinion. It won't happen - but what will happen now is all those teams who were wronged can legitimately come out and demand stronger answers. If it had been us, and that had been Howe, this is exactly what I'd want him to say. VAR is a disgrace, mate, and it's about time someone said so in public without fearing a ban from PGMOL.
Exception was in 2000 or whatever with Wenger said he'll replay an FA Cup game Vs Sheff It'd cos he knew his players has scored an incorrect goal. But that was an acknowledgement of a mistake by his own team, and this was a mistake from a 3rd party.
No chance game will or should be replayed. Not 1 person wants it. And it’s not spurs fault so why should they be punished? So many simple solutions to either the var **** up, or stopping the game 20 seconds later to tel the officially so they can ask spurs if happy to let lfc walk the ball in etc. time to move on now.
To be fair unfortunately the click bait headlines of ‘klopp demands replay’ are somewhat misleading but get the traffic flowing to articles
This is the bit that worries me the most. If they had stopped at the next stoppage of play and sent the ref to the screen he could have call Poch and Klopp over, shown them the video evidence, apologized for the **** up, upstairs - so not his fault, and they'd have all shook hands, allowed the goal and added the extra min or whatever of play on to the end of the half no one would have complained and actually probably the opposite - there would have been world wide acceptance and praise for that process. To say "ah **** they've played 30 seconds in the middle of the pitch" with no real affect on the game so we can't go back is almost as incompetent as the original fuc up. The throw in was taken from almost exactly inline with the offside decision so nothing had happened. Obviously different if they score from that phase of play but it was cowardly to not do something about it at the time when they realised and there was nothing really (apart from the "rulebook" and common sense) preventing them pulling it back.
Has he not just said in his press conference that he thinks replaying the match would be the right thing to do?
Unfortunately he has and, as Biscan says, it's not going to happen, never was going to happen and never will happen in the future. You can make a case that it has obviously affected the game but Spurs could have been fired up from going a goal down to 10 men and gone on and won 3-2 but we will never know. Kind of sympathise with Klopp because if you are the manager of Liverpool of course you'll think the game should be replayed because your on the end of a cluster **** of a decision but they've happened since the game was invented and they'll continue to happen going forwards no matter how much tech there is.
Don't twist words, Jak didn't say demand, he said Klopp thinks it is the right thing to do - which he has been quoted as saying.
