Brilliant result and performance. Standards dipped a little bit after the third, but understandable considering Hull didn’t really trouble us too much and we were able to make that quadruple substitution. This side somehow continues to keep evolving and improving. Some of the football we played tonight was mesmerising. The benefits of retaining a majority of the squad from last season - and watching themselves push one another to higher standards - is a big plus point.
Tremendous performance all round but special mention for our skipper,he is absolutely pivotal to the way we play,Hirst who worked his socks off and Hladky, who I think will be difficult to dislodge from the number one spot. I don't think it's pushing it to say we really have built on the way we were able to dominate teams in Div 1 and carry it through to the next level.I don't like to speak too soon but I'm starting to believe we may have a good shout for back-to-back promotions.
Preston away to Leicester tomorrow, a Leicester win would be bloody great, then we beat Preston Saturday and start to pull away with Leicester!
That is one of the best performances I've ever seen from a town team, any player could've been man of the match today. Superb performance. Tactically McKenna got it spot on. Our play on the ball was superb, movement superb and press first half was world class. I said it earlier in the thread that I thought Walton will be in the team before the end of the year but wow Hladky was impressive tonight, his positional play and distribution was superb. Full credit to the team and McKenna on what was a near perfect performance. To temper all this enthusiasm and offer some balance I thought whilst Edmunson was superb there was one moment he should have just leathered the ball clear and I thought Williams was a bit overzealous sometimes which I'm sure at some point will catch him out (and should've done tonight with what looked like a penalty). Finally I thought when McKenna brought all the 4 subs on at once it made the ball very hard to stick up top and changed the momentum slightly.....I'm being very picky here but it's force of habit...I can't believe how good we are
Perhaps the most complete performance against a very good team this season. Very astute tactics by KM, and everyone played their part. Even Harness who has been clueless, had a significant role to play. I shall try to like the man! A joy to watch, and yes, we can all believe that promotion to the Prem is a real possibility. Lets enjoy the ride!
I thought McKenna's choice to play Edmundson was excellent. He figured Hull wouldn't be playing too many high balls and George is probably more mobile than Burgess and it worked out very well. Great to have Morsy back, really makes us tick. Unlike last season I'm actually less worried about Morsy being unavailable because I think a midfield pair of Luongo and Taylor would be almost as equal, with Taylor more advanced and Mass dictating play. Hirst was excellent leading the line and his willingness to run beyond defenders is crucial to the way we open teams up. And Hladky, well, I think Walton will have trouble getting back in because Vas is so much more comfortable with the ball at feet under pressure. Walton tends to look panicked when he gets closed down but Hladky is calm and gets it out to a team mate. His passing and quick throws are starting attacks and getting us upfield rapidly. He's made some top drawer saves and deserves to keep his place in the team. Long way to go but it's been a wonderful ride up until this point. Let's keep marching on.
A great result from a great performance and i cant remember seeing such brilliant football from a Town team so it must have been a long time ago. I was seriously worried about Edmundson coming in for Burgess but he was fantastic, he actually gave Delap a head start in a race for the ball and overtook him with pace i didnt know he possessed, i was equally worried about Harness because im not his biggest fan but he was terrific as were all of them, we lost it a bit when the mass subs were made but the game had been over some time by then and it could have been worse for Hull if Hutchinson had been awarded a stonewall penalty. I expected more from Hull but quite honestly they were outplayed, outclassed, and well beaten by half time, in fact i think they only had one shot on target in the whole game, so great performance and we move on to Preston at home on Saturday.
"Forget about Leicester and let’s focus on our own progression. It’s a long season and it will be them and one other for the top two. Come March I’ll start to look out for the results of those around us if we’re still in the hunt for the autos." Sound familiar?Oh yeah,it was you on Sunday when I posted "Come on Blackburn"!!
Morsy showed why we missed him the other day, we've got a few good CMs to come in but he just dictates the play and tempo. Luongo is the perfect foil for him, just so reliable you can see it makes Morsy a better player and play with more freedom. These 2 who are our most experienced players and vital to the team. Glad you picked out Hirst who again was superb. Whilst it didn't feel like he contributed on the ball a great deal, he brings so much more than goals to the team and without picking on Ladapo too much with Hirst in the team you can really see the difference in terms of the space he creates for others through his movement is superb.
Fair play Tractor Boys...Easily the better side last night.....Good luck for the rest of the season, except for the return game.
Funny,I read it as you telling me not to worry about what Leicester's opposition did on Sunday and then the next game hoping Leicester's opposition won!Not contrary at all!
If, & I mean if you have a few minutes to spare go to the Hull match day thread, it is brilliant. One or two unsavoury comments but on the whole a really good read.
The nuances you’ve missed are that 1) this one is a top of the table clash and 2) I don’t really care what the outcome is 3) by all means worry about it if you want to 4) I will be taking an interest in other games, even if I won’t be particularly concerned how the outcome will affect us just yet 5) Town are on fire. There’s every chance we won’t be watching other results later in the season as it could all be done and dusted by March at this rate!
“Nuances”,irrelevances, contrariness?Add to that illogic. Blackburn beating Leicester would have done us a favour.Preston drawing with or beating them (which were your prefered outcomes)would potentially harm us.
Let’s continue this thread ad nauseam then. I wouldn’t be the first person to spew nonsense about football but I don’t expect Preston to stay the course so I don’t think it’s going to harm us to want them to have the points. As it turns out, Leicester look to be on their way to breaking records and Town might even start to pull away from the pack with them. Apologies that you took my flippant remark about the Blackburn game so much to heart.
