The rights of purple faced angry gits to fly past the school gates in a 4 litre Range River at 46 mph, must be protected. But only in London’s most gammony suburbs; not in the nice bit of Yorkshire, obviously.

I don't see the need for the argument.

20mph is safer than 30mph obviously.

There’s been loads of 20mph roads for ages. Some round here probably could be 30 but as always it’s a tiny issue inflated into something huge because Labour/woke/Meghan Markle even if Welsh Tories voted for it and now pretend they didn’t.

I see the argument and why some people are upset about it, however, I also agree some areas do need to be 20mph, it's down to how sensible the governing authorities are about implementing it.

Personally I like driving around at 20mph just to piss people off...

@luvgonzo and @Chief were complaining about the 20mph limit in Wales, maybe we should ask them if it's just a tiny issue? <whistle>

If it saves one child, it will have been worth it.

Unfortunately the people it's really aimed at, boy racers and anggammons, won't slow down anyway.

Ffs if you want to take it to those lengths then just ban cars completely.

Also you are wrong, most speeders are locals, not just boy racers. Most the problems with speed are caused by the very people that live in the areas complaining about it, outsiders tend to be more careful as they don't know the area.

I'd argue that if you set up a speed trap in a 20mph zone, most those exceeding it live within a couple of mile radius.

The revenue raised from angry gammon drivers exceeding 20mph should be spent on refugee , trans, albino children of colour to become F1 drivers

Anyway, I don't particularly like driving, so I don't care you can make the whole country 20mph.

That would be the one the Tories voted for before they started the last desperate roll of the dice of turning 'The War On Motorists' into a wedge issue?

    upload_2023-10-3_14-24-14.png

Did a speed awareness course back in may (79mph on the 70mph A19, as you're asking. First ticket for 25 years). There's just no logical reason NOT to mike residential side-streets 20mph. Main roads 30mph, for sure, but the difference in time in a residential journey of 5 miles is so ****ing inconsequential (5 mins) as to be negligible. And there is a huge difference between hitting a pedestrian at 20mph compared to 30mph. And if we're talking about the commute to and from work each day - well I can only speak for York when I say travelling at 20mph would be something on the main roads, never mind 30mph.

I didn't even state who was to blame or who implemented what, especially as Wales is not the only place in the UK affected by 20mph limits, there are a lot more 20mph zones around probably than people realise.

I also don't disagree that people will always suffer worse injuries (or even death) at higher speeds. What I do disagree with is any narrative that it's 'boy racers,' the problem is EVERYONE speeding, especially since the financial penalties for younger drivers are huge.

I would probably change the law and anyone that causes an accident, as deemed at fault by the insurance companies OR police, should be made to take a retest, especially if their actions have caused injury (or death). If we are really interested in stopping accidents/injury/death, then a licence shouldn't be for life once you pass your test, you should only keep your licence for the length of time you demonstrate the competence to keep it.

If it was down to me, I would keep half the idiots off the M25, so I would be worse than the Welsh government.
