It’s not attacking too quickly he’s a bit like Docherty lots of energy and trying to move before he has the ball under control that’s all , I’ve seen it in quite a lot of players over the years . He can improve he’s young

I think you could say the same things about most of the team on Saturday.

Yes I would argue it was saturday we struggled the most. We have 14 goals which is a good return at this point. It's about 1/4 of what we scored all of last season and we are 9 games in. We have also had the best start we have ever had to a championship season. I get the frustrations because a few tweaks here or there or a few lucky bounces in our favour and we are probably 2nd or 3rd but in reality we are doing really bloody well.

Teams are coming here knowing they have to have a gameplan to beat us. Coventry, Plymouth and Bristol City all sat deep and played us on the counter. I remember under Shota and McCann teams would come here knowing they'd have most of the ball and could dictate the game to us. I remember Fulham coming here and chanting at us "He's got more goals than you" when Mitrovic scored. Yes the squad isn't complete and I agree its probably a quality striker light but the fact is this team is far better than it was even 12 months ago. Hell I would even say its far better than the one Rosenior finished with last season

Semantics at this point. Fact is Connolly is in the top goal scoring category and didn't score saturday. Just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes

I thought we were unlucky not to win that. By the end of the thought we'd given it a really good go.

The problem isn't the style of play, it's that we're still our own worst enemy. Anyone that went to the Doncaster cup game will know why people were getting irate at us 1-0 down, the ball at Allsopp's feet and everyone standing their like statues again for 20-30 seconds. Thankfully it only happened the once and we came out strong for a good second half. We could have been 3-0 down at half time though. There's no need for the 'suicide ball at the back' side of this game plan. Allsopp is there to pick out the long ball when it's on, which he didn't do much of v Plymouth.

The other issue for me is Seri. For everything he does brilliantly, he's far too casual on the ball when we've got it deep and he seems to have one major brain fart per game which we've not been punished for yet this season. But we will be if we keep doing things like that. He put their striker clean through on goal vs Coventry but luckily their striker slipped. Probably couldn't believe his luck.

If we can score the first goal at home, the game plan will work, just like it's working away. But we need to be more adventurous in the first half at home and sit back less, inviting that pressure on.

Joint top v joint 4th is just semantics!?
Hopefully at the end of the season we finish 4th and we can claim automatic promotion due to 'semantics'!

He's 2 goals off being joint top scorer after 9 games. That's why I called it semantics. Prior to the game he was joint top scorer (alongside Hardie who also didn't score)

So if we extrapolate that over the season he’s likely to finish 10 goals behind top scorer.

We' re 9 games in and have
The 3 players who have played as central forwards for us have 11 from 9 games.

I'd say the strikers were doing their job but we need more weighing in from other areas of the pitch - only 2 others have scored.

I'd agree with this wholeheartedly. Slater being more advanced helps him. I think Philogene is not far off scoring though and the floodgates will open. We did miss Tufan saturday as well. Not to mention we never seem to get much from set pieces

We don’t really seem to have much of an aerial threat at all, set pieces we just don’t threaten the opposition. We don’t have a Michael turner or Curtis Davies anymore, how often do we actually score from corners? Would be nice to get a defender that chips in with 5/6 goals a season again and make other teams worry when we get corners.

You can't seriously be saying Connolly is less mobile than Oscar?

Were a 5th of the way through the season and only 3 goals from midfield and none from defenders is a bit of a sparse contribution.

We've tried a few different set piece takers - even recruited a specialist with a reputation and it hasn't made much difference. Maybe it's those trying to get on the end of the deliveries as opposed the set piece taker that are the issue?

Yeah that’s my point to be honest, nothing wrong with the delivery, think Morton put some decent balls in we just don’t seem to threaten with a good header of the ball, think our defenders are quite nice if that’s the right word. We could do with them being a bit nastier in the opposition box and putting there head where it hurts to get a goal.

I think I heard on the highlights, that we have committed the least number of fouls but are the 4th most fouled team in the division... we are very nice!!

This seems to happen every season. Just one of those perennial City things that we're always crap from set pieces. Very frustrating. We get loads of corners this season too, so we really should be doing something with them at some point. We never even come close from corners. Meanwhile, Coventry scoring from a corner with their only real chance of the game got them a 1-1 draw against us. These moments in the boxes are where we let ourselves down.
