Agreed mate. The worlds gone bonkers. Mind I’ve always found it insane that any working class person would vote for a party predominantly run public school toffs. That was bad enough but as you stated some of those other things are insane. I go back to the thing about climate change and poverty, stop foreign aid, pollute the vulnerable parts of the world, moan when they travel. Cancel a trade agreement and national income falls. People are thick and can’t make connections in their brain and are lambs to the slaughter.
Truss and Kwarteng wrecked our economic reputation in a matter of days. A year on, it still hasn’t recovered City Comment: The fallout from that extraordinary week is still being felt today. https://www.standard.co.uk/business...est-rates-tax-cuts-pound-dollar-b1109799.html
There was me thinking it was the Government that ordered a lock down and told everyone to stay at home. I agree your comment that actions do have consequences.
Interesting to see the ONS have revised our economic growth in Jan to Mar this year. Seems we did better than was reported. All those reports of being worst in the G7 were innacurate after all. Performing better than Germany and France. Doesnt necessarily mean much to what is in my pocket, but as it is one of the core ways the media portray the government seems a shame they cant get it right.
Sunak's promise to stop the boats looks more ridiculous every day, the only hope he has is the weather tbh. "Hundreds of people crossed the English Channel on Saturday as people smugglers took advantage of good weather to deploy new tactics in a bid to stay one step ahead of French authorities." https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12578159/amp/Migrants-dinghy-Channel-UK-claimed-lives.html
Not surprised to be honest, l have just watched State of Chaos by Laura Kuenssberg. A 3 episodes showing from Brexit referendum through to Sunak taking the helm and 5 PM. Great insight and some great interviews from array of political heavyweights, civil servant's, and includes Dominic Cummins. Not sure how the next government will turn it around. It gave me an insight into the mess we are in.
They were queued out of the building for Truss' speech at the party conference today. Reminds me of the very famous annual assessment quip - 'those under his command would follow him anywhere. Mainly out of curiosity'
Great series, really enjoyed it. I don't rate Kuenssberg on her Sunday morning show, seems to have an agenda, whereas in the series she reported the turmoil and demise of our democracy very well.
That was nailed on to happen mind, so much for levelling up. What will the money be spent on instead? I’m going to say nowt as there isn’t any money.
Spot on, start north and work down with one connection at a time. Would probably have been cheaper that way too.
Oof. Hunt declares war on the Civil Service. A billion quid's worth of cuts. It's been coming since before COVID mind. More people than ever and less being done.
Should never have started full stop. A Labour party vanity project that the Tories thought they could build popularity from. If Sunak doesnt bin it and save all that cash it will be indefensible in my opinon. The saved money should go to sensible local transport projects like tram systems. Sell all the land off from HS2 and spend more on road repairs.
