And so it begins.....if it hadn't already started 12 months ago! The UK is sleepwalking into a dictatorship
Bearing in mind Sunaks recent penchant to pull back on important policy commitments left, right and centre in a desperate attempt to garner support, I wouldn't think pursuing a 'flip-flop' attack on Labour as a particularly clever move.
Scott Benton, the MP for Blackpool South, is going to be suspended for 10 days or more, apparently. This will trigger another by-election. The Times caught him on tape offering to lobby for the gambling industry in April. He'd previously broken the rules on declared interests in 2020. If current polling is applied to the constituency, it would suggest a Labour gain. That may be influenced by the candidates and whether some parties stand, of course. The Brexit Party took 6% of the vote last time, for example.
Standing in a former railway station in Manchester to announce that HS2 will now offer high speed travel between Watford and Birmingham is truly... please log in to view this image
Let's get this right, they announced that the Manchester leg of HS2 is scrapped by the Chancellor who decided to fly to Manchester while they hold their conference in ( checks notes) Manchester , Burn theses ****ers out of office for their blatant piss taking now
Who is Henry Hill (background?) from Conservative Home? Every time I hear him he's calling it as it is within the Tory party. I've just watched a full on interview with him at the Tory conference on Sky News and let's just say he's not spun anything and let rip with everything wrong with this government. It's rather refreshing tbf.
I would've said the same until he said something along the lines of "the trouble with Rishi and this government is that all they're offering is that they're not as bad as Liz Truss or Boris Johnson, which to be fair is a good thing, but it lacks any sense of direction." So in one sentence he pretty much obliterated the 3 primary factions of the Tories who'll be vying for control of the party should they lose the GE. The only faction left is the one nation tories, but I doubt he was representing them as they don't like to make a fuss or rock the applecart in front of outsiders.
I think that any politically aware Tory or right-wing voter recognises the current ****show. They're all bloody useless, but they also commit the ultimate Conservative sin of losing votes. Johnson's the only one that independents liked and the members wanted Truss. She instantly imploded the economy like the libertarian kamikaze pilot that she is. Badenoch, Braverman and Patel are all unlikeable lunatics. Hunt's a.... Hunt. Gove is a backstabbing, coked up turd. Most of the rest of them are quitting. Who's left? Mordaunt and her sword, I guess. Bit Monty Python, though. I expect they'll find some populist fascist with a sliver of charisma and put them up front next. Even that's an issue in the era of smartphones and social media. They keep having a history of harassment. Shocking, isn't it?
Between Mordaunt and Cruella imo. I have no doubt whatsoever that if they lose the GE they will move even further to the right. They're so afraid of losing their base to the likes of Reform or those of the Farage ilk, that they'll be battling it out on that basis. Pushed wholeheartedly of course by the Tufton Street mob. Now if the members go for Penny Mordaunt then it goes either one of two ways - more division and fighting for control of the direction of the party for years to come... or she appeases the right by going full gammon.
You know the funny thing about Brexit (and rather unfortunate for the rest of us) is that when Cameron went ahead with the referendum, he thought it would heal the gaping wound between the *****loid right wing and the moderates once and for all within the party. And all it did was open a pandora's box of self-destruction... except without the hope as most of the moderates will eventually be driven out.
