Yes I know but in the past he has'nt been given much game time,When he is fit again perhaps give him a chance rather than play a midfielder out wide.
So,we were unlucky not to win anywhere between 2-1 and 5-1...Change the rhetorical record Liam F.F.S. We've drawn 4 games from our last 6!!
One of my biggest frustrations yesterday, Macca is a good long passer particlarly on the diagonal, but it took him till near the end to play one to Philogene. Admittedly, Philogene doesn't get wide enough at times for that pass, but there were plenty of opportuinities missed.
Something that he won't admit ... That he set us up negatively by playing Connolly on his own up front from the kick off, that our players work the ball back to the keeper when we're in the other teams half far too frequently, that he set us up not to lose? He's admitting we were all over them in the last 15-20 minutes,we made chances late on that we should've been making throughout the full game. Why is this such a familiar theme?
My twopenneth, I for one thought it was an entertaining game, yes, frustrating at times particularly first half, strange to say felt like we were in control for most parts, but could easily have been 2 goals down at half time, saved by Allsop and the post, we did our darnest to try & gift them two goals by suicidal dallying around the back. I didn’t hear any booing, but some anxiety shown at these. Second half, we got at them quicker, particularly when Delap came on, he was a pain in their side, they couldn’t live with him, drawing numerous fouls. How we didn’t score towards end of game, could/should have, but for their keeper! A well fought, earned point. We didn’t win, but didn’t lose. Still unbeaten at home, need to turn these draws into wins. We need Ozan back, asap. UTT. ps. Free choc digestive biccies a nice treat, even the tea tasted better, must have cleaned their tea urns at long last!
Tbf because we have about 94 million central midfielders and 2 forwards, there isn't much else he could have done to set up more positively apart from start Delap alongside Connolly. It's a recruitment issue more than anything
I too commented following that pass. But Philogene was out wide waiting for the ball nearly all the game! He got plenty of it early on and clearly had the beating of their full back. So what do we do? Stop giving it to Philogene for most of the rest of the game! Loads of times our defence or midfield could, and should, have gone right, but for some reason kept choosing to go left, and usually backwards, which is how Vinagre got so much ball (and kept wasting it with poor decision making). It was doing my head in that we didn't get Philogene on the ball. Did you see his body language a few times, like wtf is going on. I liked Macca last season, but sorry to say, he's so slow on the ball (but yes, he does have that pass now & again). Pity he doesn't seem able to adapt his game, as he's not a bad defender, and is our best in the air. As PLT says, the reason we lost the game was such poor quality in our attacking phases, including of course the finishing. BUT that was not the only reason, just the blindingly obvious simplistic explanation. As said many times now, I remain unconvinced that Rosenior has it in his bag to improve us in attack; there continues to be literally no evidence to suggest otherwise. Yes, we put a very poor Wednesday to the sword and bagged 3 against a struggling Stoke, but that's 2 matches and doesn't prove anything about improvement in attacking phase coaching / tactics. Yesterday was another good example, with Plymouth there for the taking, shaky defensively when under pressure. We were FAR too safe, slow, predictable for far too long yesterday. Again. We could easily have gone 2 down. We need, as many have said, including those above Rosenior, to be braver, more positive; he now has the players (so long as Delap & Connolly don't get injured). But then again, I'm just not educated enough I guess.....
Is that the same Slater that scored. I thought we make a mistake subbing him for Twine, who offered absolutely nothing again. At least Slater puts the ball in the net more than any other player barring the forwards.
Great summary. Yes in the first half they had a goal and a shot that hit the post - but they were blips (major blips, yes) in a half that we dominated. And we continued that domination into the second half and strengthened it. I do often when whether I’ve seen the same game, when I come in here afterwards and see the miserablists saying their same old tired lines.
