96th minute own goal to lose the game made me smile. I was conflicted that it was Spurs getting the points, but it happened to Liverpool so that's good
So if VAR can’t actually be trusted to correct clear and obvious errors by the on-field officials, what on earth is the point of it?
I was waiting for the lines to appear and show that the goal was good and couldn’t understand why it didn’t happen.
In all fairness. It’s quite funny to see Liverpool get shafted. So whilst it’s infuriating, im also loving it
It is just time to get rid of it. We lost a league final because of bad decisions and yet not one of us - that I know of - wants to keep it. Bin VAR.
As I have always said, the real problem is with the standard of the officials. Most of the professional ones just aren’t up to the job, either on field or in the VAR suite. Having one set of clowns trying to watch over another set of clowns is never going to work.
It clearly looked onside at the time. The fact the check was so quick did set my alarm bells ringing. That sort of error is completely unacceptable. Liverpool should, and will I think, kick up an enormous stink over this. They will demand action. It's embarrassing how two professional referees couldn't see that looked onside from the replay and asked for lines to be drawn. The penalty Wolves didn't get, while it was a really bad call VAR didn't recommend an on field review, this is a million times worse. Liverpool were denied a perfectly good goal by not one, but two officials who didn't do their job. If Howard Webb wants to maintain any sort of credibility, he should suspend Darren England and Dan Cook, pending a thorough investigation. Then fire them.
They are not corrupt. Please don't say without any proof. Incompetent, yes, but no evidence of being corrupt.
There isn’t any point in it, nobody wants it. Consign it to the bin. Look how much more enjoyable it is this season without it. And this is meant to be entertainment, ultimately.
So apparently, Darren England drew the lines correctly and saw it was onside. What he then did was mistakenly say "check complete" instead of "award the goal". Everyone says the wrong thing occasionally so that's forgivable. What isn't forgivable is for either him or the assistant VAR Dan Cook to not realise his error and tell the ref to hold on before the game restarted. It will be very interesting to hear the audio of this when Webb next appears on Sky Sports on that show with Michael Owen.
I remember in the 90s this was a common conception. Always used to hear it on MotD and so on. And if you think about it, there is some sense to be made from it. A team with one less player is usually bound to go ultra-defensive, particularly if they are winning. So while the team with eleven will gain the ball far more, they're going to find it a lot harder to create space and opportunities in the final third. But, I'd guess it probably only applies to a short time period, like 20-30 minutes, rather than an entire game, because those ten men will tire faster.
And if you go ultra defensive, it means you're not attacking so the one man down wont matter as much - in fact you will have more behind the ball than you did before probably. EDIT: Out of principle though I will not agree with NJ as he is a twat.
