Got home at 1am. Absolutely brilliant night. Feel sorry for the Sheff Wed fans as their club is an absolute shambles Fantastic 1st half performance from us, little bit complacent in the 2nd half though. Jobe, Dan Neil and Clarkey were outstanding Thanks again to @Smug in Boots for sorting tickets
Think it was more game management and conservation of energy. Tough schedule the championship and if you can cost for 45 away from home, it's a luxury that you can not turn down IMO. Watford Wednesday night then Boro Saturday at 12.30. Energy in the bank will be worth its weight in gold.
Excellent performance with fantastic support yet again. Dan Neil is just getting better & better, with him, Ballard, Jobe, Jack, Patrick,Patto we are going to be approaching 100 million worth of talent very quickly
Yeah, was great to be able to rest Clarke and Roberts whilst getting Seelt and Rusyn on the pitch. Selfishly would have liked more goals but 3pts and a clean sheet will do me
What a night and performance. Crowd were immense, had a brilliant time in amongst it. Have to say Burstow was brilliant. Really mature performance and so many good things came from his movement and touch. Pritchard was tremendous again. Hume was back to his best - class performance I though. Everyone played well to be honest but I am picking out Jobe. What a presence he has and he gets around the pitch like a real athlete. For an 18 year old his game awareness and his ability to use his physicality is superb. I thought he was outstanding last night.
I’d want more than £100 million for that group now. Jacky is beyond Lewis-Potter money now. This is 3 seasons now he’s turning it on I’d want £30million now kid is a natural footballer and game winner.
The whole "passing out from the back" worries me. I'm having kittens every time we get closed down, but somehow we pass through them/get away with it. Nailed on we will concede a goal or two this season in those scenarios
Gotta admit I seem to be the only one who didn’t see much in Burstow last night. By no means saying he was poor, I just wasn’t that impressed (was the first time I’ve seen him). The assist and the penalty win spin were both brilliant. I’m almost certainly wrong and I’m really pleased that the consensus is he was good all round.
100% I know it's not the "brand" of football we play, but is there any merit in going more direct against some of these teams? Cardiff defended like their lives depended on it (Sheff Wed take note) but with a few big lads in the team we could have knocked balls in the box if only to mix things up a bit. Cardiff knew how we were going to play - neat, intricate football, lots of short corners and short passes around the edge of the box - is there any harm in surrounding the keeper and sticking a few balls under the crossbar? Maybe score one off someone's arse? Not necessarily pretty to watch, but I don't think we are necessarily compromising our beliefs with the odd direct ball
He wasn't getting much service - the few times Clarke and Roberts got behind them and pulled the ball back, it was straight to a Sheff Wed defender. His movement and hold up play is improving and I think once he gets a goal, more will come
It got me thinking about Hume after i wrote this post. He must be absolutely kicking himself now for digging his heels in over his contract, reluctantly signing it when he had no other offers and then jumping ship at the first opportunity. Since joining Pompey hes only made 20 appearances and the last i heard they were trying to offload him with a few League 2 teams interested.
Unfortunately I did not see the game but I am assuming the ref must have been ok as I have not seen one comment at all about him. To be fair we do normally have a pop at them.
Harra was a quality player when we were bairns anarl was at Sunderland from a really young age. Head and shoulders above everyone in our age group through school couldn’t believe that he didn’t make it professional. Won everything and went unbeaten for about 3 years.
