Its one thing I never understood about the 'no work' argument. Whereas if you are 'better off' on benefits I can kind of see the dilemma, there is work out there depending on the individual Its weird how an aussie backpacker can get a job in wetherspoons but a local cannot
Thats 2 seperate arguments IMO Those who have more than the basics could simply be better at managing, or believing they are owed a living or they might be fiddling the system The issue about what is poverty, I have alluded to. The dole isnt about getting your TV licence paid. Its to put basic necesseties on the table. Beans on toast if you will Now some think TV is a necessity. Is it? and over clothes?
If i was a backpacker, i would work at wetherspoons, but if i had to work there now i don't think i'd be able to pay my mortgage, or even fill the car up with petrol
I'd love a job abroad i even looked into it but it was the first thing i ever came across on the internet that i could find no decent information on (unless you know any good ones I'd appreciate the links) been trying to find a job in holland for some time now (because the industry I'm qualified is huge there) I agree there is a lot of people picky about what jobs they get, personally I'm only picky on specifics such as working with people on a daily basis (Shop counters, Fast food places that sort of thing) because i just can't handle people at times if i was to take a job doing it i know for a fact I'd flip at someone on an off day for asking a stupid question or just generally me thinking they are being a **** towards me. I know thats a huge part of the job market but I have applied for backroom jobs in the likes of Tescos and stuff but never got anywhere with it. I've had the experience of being made redundant myself and your right its not something you enjoy at all in fact its completely **** and i also agree some people sit about and claim benefits for the sake of it, i have a cousin who does exactly that and now knows more information on conspiracy theories on every controversial subject in the book in fact stick him in a room with eddie and the two would talk for days on end with eddie probably being enlightened. In saying that though like i said in my OP i don't grudge paying taxes that go into benefits because a lot of families and people use them as a lifeline.
Thing is though you would still get benefits and being on benefits doesnt fill up the car or pay the mortgage either
Your right we can just leave the door open and play with anything that comes in, or better yet sit and watch the washing machine/tumble drier and become so mentally deluded you think its a soap. Unemployment gives you too much spare time to sit without a tele is quite ludicrous.
What benefits do you still get? as far as I'm aware you only still get Child Benefit and Working Tax Benefit if you work less than 16 hours a week.
When I was applying for a job labouring in Belfast (going from an office job in Malta) it was never meant to be something that made me happy or fulfilled my ambitions in life - it was supposed to be something **** which paid the bills until something better came along. And that's the thing, I really couldn't spend a few months out of work or else I would go broke. My original point was that there is work if you are flexible and will take any job and a lot of people will not take any job.... or some are genuinely beyond employment.
Exactly, the backpacker just wants to earn a few quid before he moves on, whereas i could have lost my house when i was made redundant a few years back, and i couldn't get **** all because the wife had a part time job, luckily i got another job elsewhere, but my friend lost his home because he couldn't pay his mortgage even though he found himself a ****ty low paid job. horses for courses, some are happy just pulling pints and moving on to the next hostel, some need to pay mortgages, look after their kids and have a nice life, if its taken away and you lose everything, get thrown on the dole and then its a **** it attitude. then there's the lazy ****s who don't want to work of course. my point is, not everyone on the dole is a scrounging bastard.
See thats where I would disagree with you TBH Its not the governments job (imo) to keep you entertained. Benefits are for feeding/clothing/heating etc even the washing machine and dryer are not necesseties imo. If you have them lucky you. That is not to say I would wish that on anyone, being poor sucks been there done that worn the tshirt I have sold double glazing door to door for a basic of £56 a week, because I didnt want to sign on washed dishes as a teenager, worked in a takeaway to put myself through uni lived in a 1bed dingy thing without heat, no tele and then a little second hand black and white thing never signing on and still able to eat and wear clothes and that was without primark and tesco selling bread for 10p at night
2 seperate issues imo those who say they cant find work wont do anything redundancy sucks and yes a lot can be lost. As ****ty as that is though, I still fail to see how a person in a council house, on housing benefit and signing on cant clothe a kid

its not two separate issues though, people get tarred with the same brush for being on the dole through no fault of their own. I agree with your last point, neither can i, isn't that what child benefits are for
