How lucky were they that they were drawn with Milan , so it would fit in with their little song. What would they have come up with if the draw had put them against CRVENA ZVEZDA (group g)

They would have still been thinking about S.A.F.C. like they always seem to do because of their strange, but understandable, obsession with us :emoticon-0105-wink:

They won the Fairs Cup in 1970 and still haven't found a rhyme for Ujpest Dozsa ...

... most of them can't even spell it <laugh>

I do enjoy when the Saudis tell me they won the UEFA Cup and how it's definitely a major European trophy.....

It's always a pleasure proving them wrong

Whatever the arguments UEFA washed their hands of it, end of story.

The year they won it teams went through on the toss of a coin and Ujpest qualified when their opponents didn't bother to turn up <laugh>

I'm just pleased it wasn't Barcelona or Realb Madriid they beat in the final ...

    ... just imagine.

The mags didn't even qualify - it was an invitational tournament that the Saudis were only involved in because other teams turned it down

You needed to be a city to be involved i believe & only one club per city

And as London had two teams that "qualified" one of them had to drop out as only one club per city, the Maggots took their place.

I think three clubs had to drop out ... Everton was one of them iirc.

Yep. Everton had to drop out because Liverpool finished third, Spurs and Arsenal had to drop out because Chelsea finished sixth, all because of the "one city, one team" rule. I remember my dad saying that if Man U had won the league instead of Man City, the mags wouldn't have qualified as City would have gone into the Fairs Cup, because Man U were defending European Cup holders in 1968 they automatically qualified for the European Cup the next season. The mags only finished tenth that season, only four points ahead of us in 15th.
