Following some recent chats I wanted to ask what people's thoughts on criticism of managers and players are ?

Is it OK? If so under what circumstances? Or should players and managers never face criticism at all?

I think criticism is fair and can be discussed if it's done in context. Same has to be said for over the top praise.

To me I think it's perfectly fine to say player A, player B has played poorly or isn't looking sharp or whatever, but at the same time being aware that there could be issues causing this. Returning from injury, carrying a niggle, on a booking etc.

Likewise if the team are consistently playing poorly and not getting results then, eventually the manager is going to face some flak. However as with players, the bigger context needs to be taken into account such as who we're playing, who is injured/suspended etc.

I think over the top ****e (for want of a better word) from people simply pissing the bed after 2 or 3 games where we haven't dominated games is mental and comes across as ungrateful after everything this particular manager has done for us in such a short period of time. Likewise I'm not about to get all giddy over last night's performance when the reality is we were **** in the first half, much better in the second half. Some will give it the big licks and say we beat the Champions league winners in 90 minutes. Again the reality is we beat the reserve team.

So you're never happy even after a big victory? You find the negative to ensure only a normal level of excitement is endeavoured and by the same token when Newcastle lose you find the positive to avoid concern.

I think people criticise when it suits their agenda and don't like other people criticising things that don't. Essentially it's a very basic process.

It comes down to self awareness though because some people don't even know they do it.

Criticism and credit when it's due is fair and that's the bottom line.

Course I'm happy after a big win. I never said I wasn't. To put it in context I would be even happier had our first 11 beaten Man City's first 11 last night. The reality is though our 2nd 11 beat their 2nd 11. Still happy with the win and there was some exciting things to take from a number of the performances.

That being said we beat Brentford the other week and it was a tough watch at times but I was happy with the result, we then battered Sheff Utd and I was delighted with the performance and the result.

You need to look at the positive post victory which is that Newcastle played their second string... willock trippier botman Wilson didn't ever feature schar for like 1 minute. Isak came off.

I prefer to be more straight fwd.

    1. Win great they played well
    2. They drew and did OK
    3. Burn the club down they lost.

So what you have done, and what you have pointed out in this little thread of inner learning is this. Different people have different personalities and react in different ways to different situations and like to share differing viewpoints. If only there was a site on the internet that people could share these points of view on <laugh>

This is nonsense ! This was a defence put in place by fans who didn't like the media telling them they had unrealistic expectations.

The fans were desperate for the club to be relevant.

They've got that now and the media hate it.

They get paid a ****tonne so it should go with the territory.

The criticism of Bruce was justified in every way, as is the praise of Howe.

I actually gave Bruce credit for finishing 12th and 13th, but the majority couldn't. It meant when he failed season 3 that I felt comfortable criticising.

Yes but some get nasty about other peoples and that's the thing I don't understand. I prefer to wait in the woods with a crossbow waiting for my opportunity to win a debate..

I am generally a positive person so am much more likely to fall down on the side of praising a good performance and being philosophical of the bad ones.

I don't like hearing booing at games, I'd much rather save the negative comments / feelings for places like this. In the ground try to pick up the players rather than creating a doom spiral of negativity
