It's more to do with the nature of the game I think - plus the fact that it pre-dates other codes of football. It's rough and tough, which appeals to many Aussies.
A great night for sports fans in Brisbane - first the Lions came back from 1-31 down to beat Carlton 79-63 at the Gabba and reach the AFL grand final, then the Broncos thrashed NZ Warriors 42-12 at Suncorp Stadium to reach the NRL grand final. The beer will flowing in the city tonight...
Very good win by Ireland . Their reward for winning the group will probably be facing the All Blacks though!
Now extended to a great weekend - Brisbane Roar won their semi-final in the Australian version of the FA Cup this morning. Am tempted to head back there...
A good result for Scotland. They played a running game, which is better to watch than the constant kicking back and forth. They were too quick for the Tonga side that had gone in for weight.
Wales up on the Aussies at half time. Kicking well and scored a good try too. If they hold on Eddie Jones mob will be out which might please a few Englishmen (and women)
Ironically, that weight didn't help them for the first try - their pack seemed to just disintegrate. I was sitting here thinking that we were going to run up a record score...
Australians beaten out of site in Lyon. Shame their fans couldn't see it out to the end, but headed for the exits. This is not a football match where you leave before the end when losing.
Got to catch their long flight home I guess ! Soon to be followed by the squad and a P45 for Eddie Jones . Knocked out by a Kiwi lead team too . Painful .
Not much luck for the people of Bristol with the weather it seems when it comes to International cricket . From the BBC: Four of the last five ODIs at Bristol before today have been rained off.
Gutted - Brisbane lost 90-86 in the AFL grand final this morning - but not as gutted as the Brisbane player who gave away a 50 metre penalty with just 2.5 minutes left. Collingwood said thank you very much strolled up 50 metres and scored a six pointer to regain the lead. Exhilarating game though - just a shame someone had to lose.
Got one win but yes surely be pretty much over if the Europeans keep this up . Apparently the Americans are unwell .. Funny how those things suddenly appear when a team is in strife .
Hard to think that their 84-0 win over Romania may not be enough to help Scotland qualify for the next round. Romania didn't help their own cause by having three players sent to the sin bin, but Scotland bombed quite a few scoring opportunities due to some sloppy play. Their game against Ireland next week should be interesting.
