They still had an unfair advantage, I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s not a level playing field either. The PP clubs aren’t guaranteed to go back up, but there chances are much higher than non PP clubs.
Forest's wage bill for their promotion season was well over thirty million pounds. The clubs losses were forty five million pounds plus.
Forest, Leeds and Villa gambled on FFP and won. They probably would have had a points deduction if they hadn’t secured promotion
Clifton, our resident naysayers 1For and Supcon, won't appreciate facts like this. ..........and anyway if we had better coaches........
Keep the excuses coming RP............................................................ for if we do have a bad season...........I know what you're doing!! For the record, I actually think Nige is doing a good job, especially with reorganising the squad and how he introduces/filters the young ones etc... I've said and I believe they are beginning to gel......I do give praise when it's deserved unlike you RP.. at the end of the day, the proof is in the pudding and if we've progressed it will show in the results and where we finish in the table at the end of the season.....
Cliftonville ruined your point there about Forest. so with Luton whose your etc??? Johnson was poor and there were a lot saying that. Now City have a proper Manager the financial drawbridge has been pulled up big time.
My list is Luton, Reading, Huddersfield, Hull, Cardiff, Blackpool, QPR, Swansea - it depends how far back you want to go (Swindon, Barnsley, Charlton, Oxford, Bradford - in the Prem’s early years)
No Forest???? So your comparing now to when Barnsley Oxford Swindon went up??? Think your highlighting how BCFC badly missed the boat when it was easier to get up and City had one of the richest owners in football then (top 20???). Swansea is an interesting one. Weren't BCFC meant to be going down the project and process road with LJ??? Backed a wrong un with cash that Pearson is not having there!!
Steve Lansdown was once one of the top ten wealthiest owners of a club. In 2017 Mr Lansdown was 14th - The 15 Richest Billionaire Football Club Owners in England (businessinsider.com) In 2017 he was also the only owner in the top fifteen whose club was not, or recently had been in the Premiership.
= etc… RA.. with Forest, I thought they already had the wage debt, plus they paid off useless Hougton that some wanted here. Amazing with the right manager they went from bottom to getting promoted..with more or less the same players.
I could probably add Southampton and Sheff U to that list Yes, over the years it’s shocking that we have not seen Premiership football at the Gate - not even for one poxy season. Steve L should study the history over the period of his ownership and try and work out where the weakness lies. Again, the question of LJ always raises its head and stats will say whatever you want them to (most money spent vs longest in the second tier etc) but the harsh reality is that NO manager or regime has taken us to the top tier since Alan Dicks - which is a very big underachievement. Steve L has to provide funds, within FFP, or accept that we will ‘tread water’ in the Championship ad infinitum. He has to either back Pearson or sack him. I personally hope he backs Nige, but in addition to providing money he needs to trust Nige to spend it. I’m not sure he has fully trusted any of his managers - not even LJ. PS - I can’t comment regarding Forest because I simply don’t know. I was reacting to Cliftonvilles post.
Southampton and Sheffield Utds funding was very different to Luton's, as was Forests to Luton's which was the point I replied to.
Basically all clubs funding are different!! Depends how you want to argument them out!! I still find it strange that you and Red Alert rarely comment, but always do at the same time!
I have 3000+ comments. A large proportion of those less than rare comments are on finances. Here is another one. Luton's funding was wildly different to Forests. Luton are an outlier in recent years. Forest funding shares similarities with clubs that have pushed and manipulated FFP constraints.
I am watching the Arsenal vs Spurs match and the commentator just said "If you want to play out from the back that's no problem as long as you don't give the ball away in critical areas", and I couldn't fail to comment because that is exactly one of our weaknesses.
