One thing i have noticed alot of in recent weeks with the Forest, Portsmouth and Leicester jobs all becoming available is all clubs are now saying they would prefer a manager with championship experience. Is the divison finally getting the credit for being a very competitive divison where there isnt much between the top sides and the bottom sides. Sven Goran Eriksson and Steve McClaren both ex England managers and have won league titles in other countrys but failed in the championship. And you have Nigel Adkins Southampton top of the championship and Adkins only a few years ago was the physio at Scunthorpe and now he is possibly leading a team to the prem.

You look last season at QPR, apart from Taarabt they had a pretty average championship team but a manager in Neil Warnock who knows this divison very well. Brendan Rogers has done a good job at Watford but failed at Reading but then got Swansea up and he knew the league. Paul Lambert knew the lower divison with Wycombe, Colchester and Norwich but hadnt experience the championship before but probaly knew the league well.

Sam Allardyce has no experience of this league before but his style suits the league because his teams scrap for everything going which you need to do in the championship. If you dont have workers in you team you wont get nowhere in this league.

So out of the managers linked with us Nigel Pearson, Dave Jones, Billy Davies all have championship experience, Lee Clark you would say would be in the same boat as Paul Lambert and Mark Hughes and Martin O'Neill both are proven in the prem but would they be bigger risks to take on them a proven championship manager?

Think Martin proved with us last time he was here that he more than cuts it in the Championship.

Wouldn't mind Lee Clark if he turns out to be like Paul Lambert!

Also Martin O'Neill wasn't a proven Championship manager, never mind Premiership, when we got him - 6 odd months at Norwich doesn't count as proven - and he is probably our greatest ever manager.

We shall wait and see who when get and will have to keep the faith that he turns out to be any good!

BTW I like how the 2nd to 5th letters of Scunthorpe are automatically asterisked by the swear filter!

Out of the names mentioned, Dave Jones is your man.

Knows the league inside and out.

Martin O'Neill has proved himself time and time again. He has done a terrific job in the Championship, Premiership, Leagues 1, 2 and the conference. The divisions may be different now but when you've had that high a success rate in your career it's very hard for me to see him struggling anywhere, especially in a good job like this one. In an ideal world he's the best manager we could possibly get.

When we sacked Sven we needed to find a sensible replacement, O'Neill was the obvious choice but even when it started to look like he was never going to come i was encouraged by Top saying he wanted someone with Championship expereince and motivational skills. However, it has to be said that if we choose Lee Clark, who's been in management just over 3 years and has achieved nothing in a lower league having spent quite a bit of money, then it's a ludicrous decision.

Any manager worth is salt should be able to build a team and set up a team and change tactics thoughtout a match to do well in this league, especially if they have had a few quid to spend like Sven.
Its only a league and you only have to fit the correct pieces, install some discipline, and come up with game plan to beat whoever is put in front of you. It doesn’t matter if that is Millwall or West ham.
Sven had actually built a team that are weaker than last season and the time was probably right for him to go.

New Manager I would go for Davis or Curbishley.

Didn't Big Sam get Bolton promoted in 2001?

You are right though. It often takes a different type of manager to get you out of the Championship than to keep you in the Premiership. There are also a lot of players who will do the same, get you out of the Championship, but not keep you in the premiership.

Dave Jones will do a good job. Worked wonders with us, just couldn't get us across the line. He'd had enough chances so it was time to move on. Billy Davis is another one.

Football is football, good or bad, there is no "special" style you need to get out of this league ..............just score more than the opponents...Im sure we will concede less goals than we have.... weather its ugly to watch or not....who will care if it works?
