1. Masterson - appears to know where the opposition goal is- unlike Bonne ! 2. Turner - made 3 good saves. 3. Mahoney. Why did it take until Doncaster scored their 2nd (( 88 Min )), for Harris to decide to attack ?.. He took off Nichols - yet Bonne was finding it difficult to know where the barn door was located - let alone hit it ! What's more worrying is that of the 9 league games - nearly all have been to the lower placed teams... If we cannot score against the 'weaker' clubs, chat chance have we against the top lot ? .... oh, don't bother to say it'll all be different once Hawkins is fit - - I would bet a lot of money against him featuring again this season - or maybe for 10 minutes before he breaks down again...... I had his injury several years ago.... I don't run anymore !
I listened to the game and will look at the overall performance tomorrow once the replay is up - certainly sounded like Jake Turner kept us in the game, I'd probably go along with alwaysrights shout of the best three, but will see the replay before deciding. I think their first goal really done for us from the referees view point, I'm assuming he saw that as a back pass, but it seemed really, really harsh, but hey ho, sometimes decisions go for you, but today it went against us, but I can't really blame that when we are struggling to even find the net. I was a tad surprised to see Bonne up front again, but he did play well last game, so it wouldn't be right for me to knock NH on his selection. I really do think though that we need a plan B that activates once we go behind, because it's at that point you know it's not going to be plan A and 1-0 to the Gills. So again I agree with alwaysright, why take Nichols off and leave Bonne on, I need to stop writing now, I've agreed with always twice, I need go take my medication and have a lay down.
Did not see the game so can't comment but do think we are missing Hawkins but as always fight has said achelies injuries can take a long time and with him coming off after 30 minutes in the B team game it does not look good for playing any time soon. Bonne had a good game last week and I was hoping he had found his fitness and form and possibly once he scores he will be better. Mansfield next week is a tough game they are unbwaten.
3 mins+ weak finish by Bonne in front of goal 4+ one on one, great save by Turner both sides with early opportunities Alexander and Ogie keeping Doncaster out with defensive duties, over the bar by Ogie for a corner to Donny Stop playing head tennis! 10+ Emher penalised on edge of box, for a back pass or obstruction, not clear the refs interpretation Indirect freekick inside box 12+ Goal 1-0 for Donny from the freekick Is the Gills wall to blame for that goal, failed to hold position Donny counter attack threatening but poor final ball thankfully These first 16 mins I'm not really sure what we are trying to do 20+ Mahoney, Alexander and Coleman trying to create something for us, along with Turner the four most notable players Mahoney didn't test the keeper enough then but better from Gills Corner by Mahoney to Masterson good ball in, contact at back post by Shuan Williams, tipped over the bar, best Gills chance so far! 28+ mins applauds by both sets of supporters for a Gills supporter that sadly passed away very recently Coleman, Bonne, Malone left foot shot but keeper gathers 32 mins corner by Donny, not sure what they were trying to do with that! Gills back in possession 33 mins Ogie drives the ball forward before eventually being fouled Doncaster player booked for kicking the ball away, Gills throw by Alexander Shouts for handball in the Donny box Bonne shot, save by keeper, who spills it but gathers at second attempt All Gills now Alexander and Maloney again combining well, along with Bonne 36+ Still 1-0 to Donny, but they are trying to slow the game down as Gills take the edge 37+ Masterson now clears the ball for Gills 38 Shaun Williams being talked to by the ref for sliding stud slightly up? Donny freekick Now Shaun Williams fouled 41+ Ogie slips, but wins the foul via the lino haha Donny don't like or know how to deal with Ogie down that left side when he comes forward 42 heads clash in box - break in play as Masterson and Doncaster player down 3 added minutes 47 mins Malone left foot volley out for a corner Maloney with the corner Masterson GOOOOOOAL at back post HT 1-1 Perfect finish to the half and quality header by Masterson
Ok from yesterdays full ifollow commentary and some twitter highlights and along with the first half of the full match video... 1. Turner 2. Mahoney 3. Coleman (this could have just as easily have been Alexander or Masterson) Some notable play also from Malone, not forgetting Ogie when he uses his strength to power down the left wing it all adds to the mix. We really do need to stop the head tennis, we've got players more than capable of keeping the ball on the ground, and I don't want to see my strikers Nichols and Bonne playing head volleyball, neither player are 6ft plus tall.
Some life in the midfield would help also. Harris had little choice but to play a back 3/5 on saturday because our midfield options were Coleman, S. Williams & McKenzie. Yes I guess you could argue try playing Clarke from the start but we'd then be left with no impact from the bench at all. We're crying out for people like Jefferies & Lapslie to get and stay fit to the midfield some sort of spark.
