Just listened to NP's view of the game. 'We gave immense commitment from ever player and I couldn't ask for anymore against a very good side.' Very realistic, as always from him. As yet I haven't been impressed with Dickie and it looks, from NP's interview, that he will get plenty of game time through October - Vyner has ACL damage.
I know you won’t agree, but losing ZV is a big blow to our defence. Today they generally defended quite well. It’s the moving the ball out of defence and through midfield to our striker(s) that bothered me, we needlessly gave the ball away sooo many times, putting immediate pressure back on us. The goal made us play differently, and broke up NP’s game plan, which was clearly to come for a 0-0. We came very close to doing it as well.
I thought we played better once they scored and I know “so we should” but we actually did and think had we adapted our pressing more during the game we could have had a few more attempts on goal.. That game would have given the players a bit of confidence going forward imo..
I do agree, I've said it before on here - from what I've seen Vyner is better than Dickie. Vyner's passing is a real worry though. I think we need to be realistic, from NP's interview 'we gave everything and more'. Listening to him I couldn't have been more proud to be a City fan. I've read somewhere Leicester shop in Harrods we shop at Aldi. Yes there will be the odd Hull result along the way for Leicester but they're 6/4 to win the league for a reason - they are a top side and fantastic squad. I doubt we'll beat Stoke next w/e, we're a mid table side and need to accept it. TBF I'd be happy with that final position and I don't see that as a negative. I see progress even with our small squad. I fully expect SL to loosen the purse strings a lot more next Summer and feel if NP gets a new contract a real future for City.
Most of the posts on this match I tend to agree with because they highlight many of the problems with our squad going forward. We don't seem to be able to connect the dots regularly on any given game and today I thought we looked very lacklustre and going to the King Power with the plan of sitting back and defending didn't sit well with me as we are not too good when we get that kind of constant pressure. Having to accept that we will end up lower mid-table along with the mindset that everything will come together next season, or maybe the one after that, is feeling a lot like deja-vu from both campaigns and managers from the past. It is nice to see us where we are in the Championship and hopefully we can maintain somewhere like that to be in contention towards the end, but I didn't see that hope in today's game. I tend to think that Nigel's comment of us being superb was well off the mark.
I know what you're doing RP, but it won't wash with me......We have players good enough and with the right coaching should see us have our best season under Nige with no excuses...... I bet if you tasted some of Aldi's wine, you wouldn't know if it came from there or Harrods.....
Watched the extended highlights on ITV Yes they were light years better than us and deserved all 3 points, but I’m slightly disappointed with the way we gave away the penalty
If a team too crap to stay in the Prem is ‘light years’ ahead of us, then we may as well accept that we’ve reached the pinnacle of our achievement ability. A bit depressing really!! That, and Mark Ashton’s Ipswich romping the league, fresh from L1, the misery of realising where we belong is complete
Agreed Whilst we have money from the sale of Scott and co, that we’ve largely chosen not to spend, we don’t have the luxury of the free parachute payments that the likes of Leicester, Southampton and Leeds are getting
The gulf monetary between the championship and the PL is massive. Relegated teams with their PP make it almost impossible to get promoted from one to the other, even with the backing of a billionaire owner because they aren’t allowed to spend their money to attempt to make a level playing field with PP clubs, even if they want to. Until such time as that unfairness is addressed it’s going to continue to become harder and harder for clubs in our position to progress. A few have bucked the odds, so it’s possible, but extremely difficult.
depending on how long in prem PP's can mean that as many [ circa ] 9 teams are are getting PP's that is a third of the division! On top of that the 3 latest drop outs mean they still get circa 30,000 gates [ OK wage bills will be higher but that is what PP's are for ] 3 teams go back up this year it is 3 strong teams vying for it ..... [ Southampton struggling at moment, but so is Middsbro, Watford,Blackburn & WBA ] Ipswich riding the crest of a wave at present so is PNE, Sunderland & Hull. That is 11 teams we have to overcome to be up there unless we can emulate Luton!
It’s possible, but very difficult, this season for example Leicester are well above us in terms of quality, then there’s Leeds and Southampton, Norwich also, and the list goes on. Those kind of clubs plainly have an unfair advantage, it’s not a level playing field. They are given PP funding, that we don’t have access to, I understand the reason for it, but I believe more should be done to limit how the PP money they receive is allowed to be used. It should only be used to stop those clubs from falling into financial difficulties, it shouldn’t be allowed to be used to give them an advantage over the rest of the championship.
Can you imagine the flack that Vyner would have gotten from some on here if he’d given away such a cheap penalty. It comes down to making decisions, Naismith had been turned inside out, and should have let him go, not hang out a leg, any striker will go down if you do that, a poor decision in an otherwise very good performance from him. Watching the highlights this morning it looks an even worse decision as Pring would likely have won the ball anyway.
