Luton went up with a much inferior squad tbh, you should be play-offs at least. Martin needs to give his head shake and play a more aggressive style imo. He lost more than he won at MKD and was equal at Swansea which looks similar to now for you.
I don’t think he has what it takes to turn us around at all. I was disappointed when we signed him in the first place, he’s the exact opposite of what we needed. We needed experience and someone with a record of success. Someone like your manager… You can’t have a young, naive squad led by a young, naive manager and expect success. Now we have to manage with the dross we brought in on loan and I just don’t see how things improve from here really.
To be fair, I don’t think there is that much wrong with the squad - they are a by-product of how they are being told to play. That is all on RM. Put a decent manager with this team, you will make the play-offs minimum. That said, only if they change pretty quickly. I very much doubt Shea Charles, who comes from City who play a pass it and move all over the pitch, thought he’d be told to hold on to the ball so long as his passing options are so poor that he loses it, literally we are coaching out the good things that made us buy these players in the first place, it is literally beyond insanity.
We seem to lurch from one piece of insanity to the next one under these owners. Time to accept we are owned by the Serbian equivalent of the Venky’s
In the, Blackburn post match interview, Mowbray said he spent the first 30 minutes shouting at Jack Clarke, was going to take him off but praised him, as MOTM, after scoring two goals and running the show ... ... Martin's rhetoric, after Boro, was ridiculous and blame shifting imo. Reminds me of Lee 'clichè' Johnson.
Most of us have given up guessing his tactics and set up pre-match tbh. Each match is different and he plays to counteract the opposition knowing we'll find a way to score. Martin, with his plan A followed by plan A is a dangerous game to play ... ... fine when it works but if not its tedious for supporters and demoralising for the players. If we're struggling someone, like Hume, will put in crunching fair tackle and raise the mood. Even your goal yesterday didn't seem to do that. Summits not right.
