I’m in Spain & only read the thread after the game had finished. Although most were fairly positive with the lineup, I remained concerned with Russball & tactics. I did follow the goals on LiveScore & got excited when we went 1 up. Wanted to be wrong with my fears but boy o boy, RM you are the bloke that keeps giving. He’s out of his depth, something SR should have been wary of. I gave him one game in the “out thread@ & he smashed it. Jeez, I don’t really want another change & the upheaval but RM isnt going to fix this in the short time. Sorry SR, you ****ed up AGAIN & you have to be “brave” !!!!

Off the top of my head:

    out of work:
Warnock. Allardyce. Parker. Dean smith. Scott Parker. Nathan Jones. Ralph Hasenhuttl. Marcelo Gallardo. Benitez. Villas-boas. Roy hodgson

In work but could be poached if we swing enough cash:
Slavan Bilic. Tony Mowbray. McKenna. Bielsa. Nigel Pearson.

All would be a huge improvement on what we have seen so far

For years, I thought Warnock would have done us a job, when Strachan left in 2003, post Puel. I know an old dinosaur, who pits round pegs in rounds holes and creates discipline in a team, maybe a bit tactically inflexible, but sets up a team well. He is 74 now, Hodgson brought back at Palace at 75. Warnock has a great track record of getting teams organised and promoted. I like his steel. As he would say "Me , I would bring him in tomorrow". Fed up of looking for the bright new thing, just want someone who can organize eleven decent players and results will follow.

I'm suddenly very glad I can't attend next week tbh.

I wonder who I could give my ticket that I don't really like...

Thinking about it, if you remove those 3 late goals early in the season we would now be in the relegation zone.

Perspective of those narrow wins/draw is now very different.

Well, I’m a resilient optimist, but I have limits and I’ve reached those now

To play possession based football you have to be able to dominate a game

RM seems to think you can dominate a game BY playing possession based football… WRONG!

The possession needs to be nearer the oppositions goal than your own and you need players behind the ball to avoid counters when you lose the ball

If your players aren’t much better than the opponents then you will then get the problem of having to break their block and not have space behind them, so you need to transition quickly when you win the ball back and they aren’t in their block

RM doesn’t seem to believe this, he’s WRONG

He clearly doesn’t believe good players should play instinctively either, which I believe became an issue with Ralph too

So our squad or young players are trying to play a game they aren’t capable of and our good players are trying to play to instructions they don’t really believe in and not instinctively (when or if they get on the pitch)

We still have limited goal scoring potential and aren’t creating many chances while playing high risk football in our own half

How is this ever going to work?

    And another thing …

The passing game requires 3 things (this may be a what did the romans do for us extendable list)

1 Pass and move into space (Thanks Shanks)
2 If you’re passing to a player moving into space you need to pass it where he’s going NOT where he was a second ago
3 If you’re passing to a player who is static, marked and near your own goal, they need to be extremely resistant to pressure and/or have passing options available
4 You need to make good decisions and that requires a cool head and confidence
5 Your opposition need to believe you can bypass them so they can’t overload you high up the pitch risk free

(we struggle with all 3 … er 5 of these)

I’m getting pissed off with Martin’s comments tbh.
He’s hung Charly out to dry, with his comments and if Charly is struggling to come to terms with the language then surely the club has a duty to help him (maybe they are and we don’t know) especially since his fellow Spanish speaking club mates have gone. Martin has to find a way of including him as an equal in the squad rather than ostracising him, especially when we need his quality on the field.
It seems like he needs an arm round the shoulder and support rather than a manager making comments that will likely push him further away.
One recurring theme in Martin’s comments is how it is always the players’ fault when something goes wrong.

Bet Alcaraz is wishing he pushed harder for the move in the summer rather than wanting to stay in England and learn more of the game here.
