Not going to take us up or get us into the playoffs is it. I'd rather us be more adventurous to try and hit the playoffs as opposed to be sat in 11/12th and be happy with that
What's to say we won't be better than that? We have been so far this year and his record last year had us 10th. Think counting his derby record is a bit irrelevant to the current circumstance, and besides he has a stronger squad overall now to work with ( as long as Delap stays fit).
What's to say it won't be worse? I am absolutely no way saying it's LR out, but we shouldn't be happy or content with 10/11/12th etc and so far LRs record shows we draw to many and don't score enough and that has to change
I’m over the moon with 6th after the run of games we’ve had so far and pleased we havent lost in the league since the opening day. I think the squad is still learning and I’m looking forward to seeing us play a few weaker teams to see if we can show a slightly higher level of consistency. Lots of work to do but sometimes you just have to grind out results don’t you? Bruce did it enough times.
I think we'll finish around about where the budget puts us this season. Which will represent solid progress on last year. But as he had us 10th last year in his games in charge and we're currently 6th after a decent start this year then I don't see any reason why we shouldn't achieve top 10. Still think we'd need to overachieve slightly for playoffs but much less than 10th would be an underachievement for me. I've revised my prediction to about 8th based on this season so far. Below 12th would put the manager under pressure considering the backing IMHO.
We're in an odd position. Yes we've only lost one game and given the fact that that was only by a last minute goal that was dubious, we're nearly unbeaten. And sixth is very creditable. But we've had 2 oppos sent off. We made the most of one but not the other. We've not turned home draws into wins or, indeed, looked likely to. Some promising deadline day signings but, as yet, a few glimpses apart, they've not had a massive impact. Half a dozen games in, looking good, but let's see where we are after another half dozen.
It is, but it's also better to draw 1 than lose 1.l, and a lot of clubs have had success based on an 'if you can't win then don't get beat' mentality. To be fair though, as long as we consistently score more than we concede then that's the most important thing in the context of a full season. Better GD usually correlates to a better finish overall.
That’s the most important thing in football, not just in the context of a full season… it’s the only way you can win
You don't have to score hatfulls to win the league if you don't concede. In theory. The likelihood of never conceding is pretty slim, but in some games so far I do feel we've been a bit more open in order to create a bit more. I do feel its telling that our clean sheets have come against Leicester and Leeds though, and feel that's been a tactical ploy to turn them 2 somewhat into chess games in order to offset the differential in individual quality.
We laughed when Greaves walked over and started to put cream or something on his elbow, so obviously it hurt him as well
When did all this xG bollocks turn up, oh Tufan is expected to score half a goal next game, **** off daft ****s, I’m expected to score with our lass every month, but that never happens
That would most likely represent an xG of 1 every Xmas and Birthday... In my experience at least. Someone else can work out what that would be over a full season.
