https://safc.com/club/jobs/head-of-analysis-and-data-insights Has he left or is this a new role in addition to James?
it’s amazing how much my career has mirrored his. We both did placement year at the same company at the same time in university, then both worked for the same company before he joined Sunderland. But never spoken to him (to my knowledge).
it’s a subtly different title to his. My hope is he’s got promoted to broaden his scope and bringing in somebody to do his old role
These appointments often get overlooked as important things within a football club but ensuring that the good work that was started continues is crucial to our overall development from what we were to what we are aspiring to become. As always will trust the club to get this right and appoint the right person for the post
I don't know why,and it probably shouldn't,but this kind of thing always bothers me. I like stability, which I know isn't the norm in this modern world, where everyone seems to be constantly on the move. He's leaving because he has an opportunity to better himself elsewhere,or,he's not happy with his working conditions with us,or,he's not doing his job properly and we've asked him to go.Whatever,it's unsatisfactory. He's only been here a couple of years so it necessitates change in a relatively short period of time. We've just lost our U18 coach aswell......no-one has any committment to anything any more.....taking example from our fly-by-night politicians no doubt!
I work in construction as a manager doing freelance work so I change jobs or contracts regularly, it looks like this guy has been head hunted and offered a better package which happens, my point is make sure his replacement is as good if not better if that makes sense. If you have to change it should be a chance to make an improvement and should not always be seen as a negative
the place he's going looks really interesting. Exploring the use of AI to predict injuries in sports. 2.5 years setting up our data function and now probably wants a new challenge - fair play to the lad.
AI is the new tech bubble,so can't criticise him for wanting to get into it......even though I'm pissed off he's left us!
Wouldn’t say I’m close to the club mate, just hear small bits. Think it’s the move back down south more so than a promotion.
Really want to stress on here btw, this is in no way a signal of ‘how the club operates’. Leaving for personal reasons and club is searching for a replacement. The data foundations are set now. No big concern in the grand scheme of things.
I think Chris is saying the role is important rather than this is a sign of bad stuff As I said before, I expect the lad just wants a new challenge closer to home now he’s successfully set up the way we work. It’s a good opportunity to bring fresh views in.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Akhil Shah step up into James' role. That James Young has done a massive job and will set us up for the future.
