I think a puppet is harsh but I do not like that he is in support of the idea for monetary reasons. He knows full well its not going to help his cause whatsoever or help us to progress. He maybe could steered clear of that part of it. he also knows full well that the stadium name is not worth 10m a year to the club. They'll be lucky to get anybody never mind someone stumping up 10m. Will people feel the same if it remains Sports Direct, will they feel the same if its a paltry 2m-3m?

As I say I feel sorry for the bloke, he has one of the worst jobs in the world trying to make that pair of ****s look good. I was just disappointed that he himself believes it is progress when it just isn't.

In fairness he doesn't really say a lot to that end though, he puts across both points of view and then quickly moves onto what he can affect, which is his team on the pitch. If anyone actually watches that interview I can't understand what else they'd expect of him.

Some people decided he was a puppet the minute he was appointed and are determined to harp on anything which can justify that opinion. Anytime he doesn't publically criticize his employer, they will cite it as evidence.

Facts just get in the way of a good hatred

I posted this on Shearer's e-bar the other night.

I don't think Alan Pardew gives a **** what SJP is called - why would he?

He's not a Geordie and hasn't been here very long. It makes little or no difference to him what Lame-arse or Cashley do as far as 'raising funds' is concerned.

A good point, we shouldnt expect him to get upset over something which doesnt affect him. He respects our view and also sees the reasoning behind the board's decision, it's all he can do.

Journo: So Alan, what are you're thoughts on the recent renaming of St James Park? Do you feel it's the inevitable direction that football must take?
Pardew: Ah it's all a load of ****in' balls man!
    Ashley: <yikes>

    One month later...

Journo: Some people consider the Newcastle job somewhat of a poisoned chalice, what are your thoughts on that Steve?
McClaren: I think this is a club with a lot of history and as such the fans and the board have high expectations which is understandable really. I want to bring success back to St James Park.
    Ashley: <grr>
McClaren: I.. I mean the Sports Direct Arena.
    Ashley: <ok>

I must admit I was left with the distinct impression from the snapshot of the interview I watched on sky last night that he thinks this is good for the club because of the money. That is all that disappointed me. Maybe it was the way it was edited? Certainly it bore no resembelence to the interview I've seen printed on the website today which talks about how it is a sensitive subject etc and is a lot more in depth.

Regardless I must admit it matters not to me what Pardew says. He's here to manage the team and he's done well with that. If he is the boards camp on the renaming then so be it. If he's not then thats fine too. I don't really care about his opinion on the matter as quite frankly he isn't qualified to comment as he not from the region or a lifelong supporter.

I've not seen the Sky one, but the beeb interview first post of this thread is very balanced. I understand the supporters, on the other hand this is the boards stance, what's important to me is how we play Saturday. Perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Or moreso why would anybody even need to be impressed? Pardew is doing a great job as manager but apparently unless he puts his position as manager at risk and makes his job more stressful, some people just won't be happy.
