Going to stick £20 on that now - not going to the game so i would have spent £20 on fuel, parking and a drink. Also, my bets are like the Tom jinx...I never win them
I think it probably is a bit old fashioned tbh. And it’s more to do with coaching at a junior level where players are now all getting much more comfortable on the ball and transitions etc which removes one of the old school “stick ten men behind the ball and hoof into channels” tactics that lesser teams used to use against the big boys. Players aren’t disciplined/trained enough to do it and, pretty much, all want to get on the ball and play triangles and shorter passing game which pigeon holes the team into a certain style. Managers are picked on who can do this the best, and it’s more about just being a motivator who the players like rather than some master tactician in most cases
Does it remove that tactic of 10 men behind the ball and hoof into the channels? Seems to be getting used against us with some success.
Tonight's match has been put into sharp perspective by the death of former academy player Ben Cull at the age of 24 after a battle with cancer. The minute's applause before the game tonight will be very moving and is a reminder there are many things more important in life than a football result.
That line up screams rinse and repeat. I do think the issue is more system than personnel, but Smallbone, Aribo & Armstrong is so defensively weak its almost untrue. Ipswich -1 handicap very tempting at 11/2!
