As it happens, one of my other wishes for the English Football Leagues would be to return to the old Division One to Four setup. There is far too much attention paid to the Premier League, and people are actually missing where the real competition is happening. Even odd TV pundits, who normally report for the PL are saying, on camera, that the lower leagues are where the exciting competition in football is happening, so it isn't my eyes playing tricks on me. Sadly, I'm old enough to remember when there was a fair chance that any team could [they often wouldn't, it was usually Liverpool, Leeds, etc...] win the Elite League. But there was a real chance. Not anymore, it's all sewn up between 4, maybe 2 teams, nowadays. We've always criticised the Scottish Leagues for their lack of competition, and yet it has been happening to the English Premier League for most of its existence. That can't be right for football.
Ah...the 18th.. it's only a month away. We've had a bit of stuttering start to this season but I reckon things are starting to come right. Just in time too. Hats off to what your lot have been doing so far but you have yet to suffer any serious setbacks. ONE IS COMING!
I did the BBC Predictor [yes, I know... get a life] a few weeks back, and although I was as critical of Saints as I could be, and fair to the other teams as I could, they ended the season way out in front [a bit like now]. So I went back and predicted a narrow loss at Fratton Park. Saints still won the league quite nicely. Now, does that make you feel happy..? please log in to view this image
Hmm...better. Even better if you blew it in the play offs! especially to a side who made a late run in to the top six from nowhere
I see that the management at fratton park are saying that the problems at the East European bank owned by their backer will not affect Pompey, and they will carry on as normal in their day to day running of the club. This mean that the upgrades to the stadium ( replacing the IZAL medicated toilet paper with 2 ply rolls) will go ahead as planned. This is great news for the Pompey faithful , Sid and Doris Bonkers who are looking forward to a good soft wipe at the next home game.
