If we lose this, and lose pretty convincingly like other recent games, then I think a lot of the fanbase will turn. Do you remember when Jones was first hired and lots of people loved his interviews and he was “so honest and refreshing”, few bad games and he was a bible basher who didn’t have a clue and his interviews were an embarrassment. Martins interviews have seen people saying he seems like such a nice bloke and so much better to listen to than Jones/Selles. That will change to “he’s too nice and commands no respect” if we continue to lose
Jones and Selles at least had the excuse that they were out of their depth at PL level. Martin cannot use that excuse.
“pretty good case” There is zero chance we would’ve conceded more. We probably wouldn’t have the same make up in the squad mind you. I would’ve thought Onuachu would’ve been our main striker and we would’ve been very direct, but yeah 100% we would’ve looked far more solid defensively. We probably would’ve been moaning about the style and how **** it is to watch and how with the team we have we could play possession based football and smash teams, which shows how little fans know
Well he has experience at this level for sure, and yes hasn’t looked out of his depth. He also hasn’t looked particularly good in his time at Swansea. Saw an article where Dave Nugent (yeah I know) was saying the most worrying thing from a Saints perspective on Friday was that it looked like they had been a Championship team for a number of years such was the ease that Leicester cut through us and beat us. This year, and possibly next, are the years where we will be favourites and have a big advantage financially, we should look a lot better than we have so far. Sheff Weds was the only “convincing” game and they barely attacked and we still only won by a goal
Was talking about this at the weekend. Fans' perception of managers is determined almost entirely by results. Adkins is the perfect example. We used to laugh and love it when Adkins would use the bus metaphor for the club's journey of progression. Not because we thought it was a great metaphor but because we were winning. If Jones had said that we would have thought he was an idiot! You can pretty much do and say as you please so long as you back it up with 3 points at the weekend.
No problem at all with you being positive Tom. I welcome it. As long as its based on your belief in our players/manager. What irks me is when your confidence is based on a "the other team are sh*t" type of attitude. If we can keep it calm for the first 20 minutes, and not do anything daft, then I think we have a good chance of beating Ipswich, and anyone else in this division.
At no point did I say that. What I said is we shouldn't be expecting to lose to Ipswich at home. Maybe it came across wrong.
I'd say yes. Jones inherited a complete shambles of a squad, and had the pressure of an immediate relegation battle, against top level opposition.
Wonder when Martin will come out with the classic “they’ve been losing for a long time before I arrived, it’s not my fault…..” line
The only thing that matters in football is the result. Style is lovely but managers are there to teach the players a method that wins. That is all. They don’t get a style bonus. We need a win tomorrow.
