I've just seen part of a BBC interview with Blatter at lunchtime and he will not be resigning (Shock, horror). He apologised and said his words were "Unfortunate" and that it "hurt and it's still hurting". My heart bleeds for him. He's 75 for f..k's sake. Happily, the interviewer gave him a hard time. He should have knocked the twat out.
i think the previous guy was worse, can't spell the brazilan's name but noly the most corrupt get to the top in fifa. I just don't get why the guy wants to do the job as he's stolen enough to live like a king for another 15 years! why does he bother bar the pwoer trip? and if thats all it is he'll never retire.
I think you have hit the nail on the head. It must on be for the 'power'. He's rich and 75 years old why else would you want to work and put yourself through the kind of media circus that's going on now ?? Saying that it seems most over countries aren't as bothered as we are anyway. Are we oversensitive or are other nations spineless ??
other countires don't have as big a "commonwealth" as us do they? you'd have to ask french blokes i guess as they are the other country i think who are as multicultural as us but then your own player in this is from there and clearly takes offense as his record shows.... and i'm not saying players shouldn't our players certainly have been on record for england on abuse across europe. I wouldn't go to a football match in italy or most of eatern europe as it looks like the 80s used to be to me.
Who? Blatter batter the interviewer or the other way round? What Blatter said was unacceptable to the majority of people in the UK. However, we have to accept that our opinions (or at least the depth of them) are not shared in the rest of the world. From the little research that I have done it would appear that, within football, the South American's generally believe that they do not have a problem with racism. Whereas in some parts of Eastern Europe they appear to have a problem with both racism and xenophobia. Therefore it is nigh-on imposible to develop a truly universal response to this issue. We cannot even agree in this country with what actually racism is. Is it racist to call a black player black or is that purely the reserve of black players? Is it the words themselves or the use to which they are put? Somehow we have to find answers to these questions. As far as I can see we seem to be in agreement in the UK regarding the general principles but we find it hard to elaborate upon the specifics. However, we now created a climate in which the issue within football means that any case refered to the FA has the possibility of now being judged on criteria other than the facts of the case itself. I am in no way supporting Blatter. I disagree with his two former statements and find his 'apology' half-hearted. However, his attitudes may reflect a different understanding of the issue in the wider world.
terry clearly said "you Black B" thats mroe than just saying you're black. now. suarez may have spoken in a mix of spanish and english... nobody knows. the n word is out so if a spanish word sounded that way thats the problem... but again ref report can't have evidence of him hearing it if they took this long in deciding.. sky said they had no tv evidence and the police ar enot involved so nobody made a complaint to them fro mthe public. I await the FA's evidence eagerly.
I would in no way accept racism but I do think as a country we are over sensitive and our press like to make a meal out of things. Not just this Blatter issue. The problem with the press being this way is that the alot of people just go along with what the press are saying and jump on that bandwagon. We all know the press will lose you elections, can ruin careers etc. Take for example the whole poppies issue recently - was it really such a big deal that we couldn't have them stitched to our shirts - NO but the nation was up in arms because the press made a meal out of it. We've never done it before, the minutes silence and black arm bands have always been enough but know it's 'cool' to been seen to remember and remembering with dignity is no longer enough.
MOTD, I deliberately wanted to stay off the Evra/Suarez and Ferdinand/Terry specifics. What i was trying to say was that ANY case brought before the FA 3 months ago would/should have been judged upon the merits of the case and a sanction (suspension) been imposed. Today in a climate where people (including former players) are calling for players to be "kicked out" the pressure upon the FA to impose a far higher tarrif may be impossible to resist irrespective of the quality of the evidence presnted.
