Well a tale of two halves-First half thought Bristol City FC were absolutely on the button. Second half thought a different team came out.Complete change West Bromwich Albion we’re the better side. We need to start scoring goals at home and the sooner Tommy Conway is back the better.Think we would have won that today with him on the pitch. No standout performance but a great team performance and resolute defending to keep West Bromwich Albion Football Club out especially in the second half. End to end football and a draw was a fair result. Plymouth Argyle Football Club Tuesday we need to pick up three points then a extremely tough away game at Leicester City Football Club Niges old stomping ground. Get something there would be a great start to the season. Only lost one game so far -onwards and upwards.Get the contract signed need to get Nige signed up Bristol City FC for another three years.
If we took our chances, the bench would be irrelevant. We have missed far too many really good chances already this season, that is has and will continue to cost us points.
Very true, my point was more that we are often going to find ourselves missing out as we are unable to match our opponents ability to change things around and brighten things up by utilising their bench, today highlighted that by the fact we dominated the first half, but we’re unable to maintain our levels as we weren’t able to introduce quality from the bench.
I think complaining what we have on the bench are excuses..,enough in my opinion to have won the game.. I personally wouldn’t have taken off our hard working players ie Wells and Sykes.. we didn’t make the most of our creative play in first half. It was inevitable that West Brom would be much better in the 2nd half.. Positive notes we didn’t lose and we are beginning to gel as a team.
I still think we need a big guy to get on the end of some of those crosses. I’m NOT saying change our style - he doesn’t even need to be a number 9 - just someone to give us a plan B when we come up against a big defence. Back in the day Flint would have scored a few - particularly from set pieces. He wasn’t a number 9 but he bagged us a lot of goals.
Dickie can play that role from set pieces, obviously a goal scoring forward would be nice, but honestly there’s no way our wage structure would allow us to get one, they don’t cone cheap wages wise. Conway once he returns hopefully will add to our goal scoring, providing we are in a position for it to make a difference at that point
I tend to agree, in the main the early subs [3 ] dont exactly run around at full tilt for 20 minutes!!! time subbed off ... on some of my walks, even now , carrying around 18 +kgs in a rucksack on uphill tracks [ vertical range 340+m ] over a distance of 7km [ 14k with return ] is non stop and takes about a hour and a half .... then 2 -3 hours of activity .. and then go back down again! up to 2012 I used to carry rucksack, up to 20kgs over a vertical range of 1300m to 1700m + [ up and back ] a distance of about 20km+ have rest day and do something similar the next day ! these players should be well fit to do that everyday carrying 30kgs and jogging! note athletes talk about training "at altitude" well my early walks often took me up to over 2500m occassionally 3000m ... rareified air and all that!!!! Maybe their flourescent tops should be lead lined! ... that would get them fit!!!! Of course the subbing might be tactical? but more often than not FAILS...........
We need a Matt Smith kind of guy who scores goals with his head just for fun and I seem to remember that when we won the Paint Trophy Matt scored every goal in the run-up to the final. Those kind of players who have a nose for the netting and generally find it at the right time are out there somewhere begging to be challenged at a higher level. Forgive me but I still don't get Mehmeti and Cornick and I think we could have found better players elsewhere as I haven't seen either of them have a positive game for us.
A point gained against a team that will surely be in contention come May ? Not us though But the same old failings
I really don’t think WBA will be in contention come May. Their parachute payments have now ceased and they’re in the hole for a lot of money, possible points deduction looming, if, as rumoured they may end up in administration before the seasons finished. Maybe they can keep Cardiff up this season They are trading on their name only right now. As for us, spot on, all the promised progress has gotten us nowhere, we have arguably even gone backwards…
I just don't think we are that bad, we are not a failing side at the moment, 6 games in, holding 10th place, 2 points from playoff positions, won 2/ drawn 3/ lost 1.. M/boro/Watford/Coventry/Stoke/Leeds/Sunderland plus others, all below us, all teams with bigger expectations and reputations than us, obviosly we have injuries and a small squad, still early in the season, things can turn either way but fair play to Nige and the fellas, the cards have been dealt, we are what we are, they are coping well and I applaud them all, concerns are still there but up to now we are a top 10 side, thats progress but I am an optimist, glass half full at the moment.
Whether a fit Conway would deliver a goal here and there is the unknown, but we’re just largely impotent in front of goal And if you can’t score goals you won’t win games
Our goals for is abysmal but goals against is good only 1 team above us has a lower level and that is Preston but you are correct we need Tommy back ASAP.
One thing I have noticed, is the commitment and work rate of Nakki Wells lately. Been a touch unlucky in front of goal, but for me can’t knock the effort he puts in. And I wasn’t his biggest fan first few seasons with us.. definitely won me over now.. Also Zak saved our arse on at least two occasions yesterday just needs to improve on some of his distribution imo..
Both at home on Tuesday - let's see where we are after that. Just noticed we've both got zero goal differences but we've scored 10 against your 5. That of course means we've also let in 10, but the clean sheet last night was our first of the season. Maybe a pointer for the future? Your problems seem to be the opposite of ours - you can generally keep them out but can't find the back of the net. Long season to go matey.
Think poor Harry Cornick is the new scapegoat for this season, leaving the dolman people constantly slagging the bloke off cause he didn’t score. it was a great save for the keeper don’t think he could have done much more to be honest, but it doesn’t help when he’s not playing in the position he’s meant to be in, still think he needs a bit more time though, and it’s not like he doesn’t put any effort in.
