So ...was it a straight red.... as Terry next to me said at the time it was orange really. It was made a red by what happened in the minutes before hand...fouls and a few not fouls from Armstrong, a tackle by Field...a lot of Sunderland players rolling over a lot. They played the ref very well Colbach seems to have got some of the ball, and his foot was low but his studs caught the player on the ankle. A yellow, butwe probably would have been calling for a red We didn't play badly in the first half after that, and we're unlucky to concede to a shot that Begovic would have saved but Cook nodded out of his way...in about the 6th minute of 8 minutes overtime. ( 16-18 minutes of overtime, second half didn't start to 4.10 and endless water breaks too) Second half they came at us, and any plan disintegrated under the pressure. Begovic did not help by kicking all his gk and clearances straight into touch. That must be sorted We eventually got what we deserved, and two goals ...their last goal was a scorcher but the our players were out on their feet especially Kakay. . but the first half I felt we played OK. 2nd half we went from bad to awful quite quickly. Kakay, Field, Dozzell and Smyth I thought played well. Armstrong was a menance, and had to go off before we were reduced to 9. I have a belief this team will be okay this year, mid table mediocrity ..but thatscall I ask this year Roll on Tuesday
Just on the train home after my first game of the season. Thought we looked competitive at the start/scored a good goal - red card changed the game - agree with other comments that if there was an orange option/dare I say it a 10 minute sin bin rule it would have been more appropriate. Ref was weak surrounded by their players but Colback was daft going in with studs up. Overall really poor refereeing spoilt the game. We lacked cutting edge but didn’t look that bad even with 10 men. Thought Willock looked OK when he came on. With that spirit and a bit more luck/quality I think we’ll be OK. Cook/Fox/Paal/Field make us look pretty solid - definitely think there’s 4/5/6 worse teams in the division than us…PS I was an ‘Ainsworth’ out after a few games type but I think things are better than I’d thought they would be. I think mid lower table finish which looks so much better than what I thought after Oxford pre season/Watford first game. Sunderland will be there or thereabouts
Bwood - O'Nein's got family in the Wood, his uncle used to mansge a sunday league team in The Green Dragon.
Oh I knew he was local but didn’t know he was that local. One of those players we could have had for about £3.50 a few years ago and would have given his left bollock to play for us while we were signing some **** loan who didn’t want to be here.
Bad looking challenge....surely didn't need half of Sunderland to surround the ref and tell him what to do though
It helps. Wish we’d do it more. A few minutes earlier their bench were reacting to 3’8” Paul Smyth shoulder barging someone as if the Sunderland Strangler had just broken into the local primary school. You’ve got to play the game with the refs.
Not a Tony Mowbury fan but the philosophy of picking up cheap rejected players like O'Nein & Clarke has been impressive.
Don't think Mowbray was in charge when they first played for the Mackems. Clarke was defo on loan there before Mowbray was there, but agree that some of their signings have been good. It's amazing who you can acquire if you spend more than £2.50 and a twix !
Swansea have been nicely softened up in the derby so the playoff dream is back on when we inevitably win midweek and if Watford can beat Birmingham who rate Tyler Roberts then we’ll win that comfortably so it’s all fine.
If you're being honest there were just as many QPR around the referee ... ... and those who said his studs weren't up, and he won the ball, were wrong.
Just tuned in from Oz. Is it halftime yet? Oh ............... the game's finished! Oh .............. Some time ago you say? Oh ****e, we lost. Oh well.
Sunderland had a perfectly good goal disallowed. Sunderland had a stonewall penalty not given. QPR goal came from a throw in that was an obvious free kick to Sunderland. Two other QPR players could easily have also had red cards. I’m sorry but without the terrible QPR bias from the ref, Sunderland would have scored a hat full.
It's the Qpr board ffs, we're allowed to be bias, also I've never seen a ref who's supposedly bias towards that team, send one of that teams players off !
Sunderland deserved to win 400 nil. The QPR goal was rubbish but should have been given to Sunderland anyway but the ref was so biased he gave it to QPR. All of the QPR players should have been sent off twice each and then shot as well for hurting the poor Sunderland players. The ref was totally unfair to Sunderland, once he even gave QPR a throw in after a Sunderland player kicked the ball out. The ref is probably Gareth Ainsworth's Dad or something, he loves QPR so much. Its ridiculous Sunderland weren't given 6 points for this win.
What a prick you must be. I spent some time this evening with some proper Sunderland supporters who had been to the game. They agreed with my opinion of you.
Just a minute or two before the red card I said that the baying of the Sunderland crowd would get to the ref, and it did. It was a poor challenge, but would only have been a yellow without the pathetic Mackem bleating beforehand.
