I was going to ask a similar question.....does this result waterdown our achievement from our result against them.
Perhaps they're easier to play against than the pundits think?
    Just asking.

Playing devils advocate here but could it be we showed everyone the blueprint on how to beat them?

The same thought occurred to me but I don't think it will make any difference. We did have to defend well to keep them out and five goals are five goals, I don't think footballers are really arsed about the quality of the opposition they just like scoring.

Besides they are still above us in the table and Mowbray will have kept our feet firmly rooted to the ground.

In my opinion no it does not. I thought they were similar to us earlier in the season in that their football was decent until they got to where it mattered, basically the 18yd box and they had nobody to score goals. We have it all and will leave everyone trailing in our wake not just them :emoticon-0102-bigsm.

    From Sky...

    Southampton's Russell Martin:

"I asked the players to go toe-to-toe with a really good team. I thought it was a really good game with two good teams. We made it really difficult for ourselves in conceding two early goals. We got back into it brilliantly and the third goal just before half-time was a real killer.

"We don't score our chances and they do. They were really clinical and we weren't people will talk about the scoreline and read what they want into it, but if we were clinical tonight it's a much closer game than the scoreline suggests."

Unlucky son <laugh><laugh>, a couple more of those results and you're toast mate.

I agree that charles is the most likely to play there but its the defensive side that he needs to work on. He was never tested defensively when he played there for city as they were so dominate. Smallbone is better box to box, he did well at stoke as he had ben pearson alongside him breaking up play. Downes is a tidy footballer but he just doesnt win tackles n break up plsy enough fir me.

All 3 are decent players but dont see them as a combo. Not sure why martin is trying to play armstrong in a deeper role, hes a striker so if they are playing 1 up front then it has to be him or adams, shouldnt be trying to play 1 deeper

Charles should start cm for them as hes the one with the biggest upside, let him learn the position n he will be class

Yep. Just what we were saying last night.

You can't always play the way you want to play, and if players are coming hunting for the ball and closing down, you just sometimes have to chip it over the midfield and turn the opposition around. If its good enough for Man City.....

Soton are too dogmatic. I like to see it, as it actually keeps pressure off you, but sometimes if enough are hustling you the odds just say play over.

They just won't, despite having one or two who would be favourites in a race to a decent ball, so they'll keep getting closed down and keep losing possession and goals.

And if even I can see this, ....?!

Can’t believe Nunez has been left out again. Only forward they have who can really take a game by the scruff of the neck and create something out of nothing and I include Salah in that. How on earth Gakpo gets a game over him is beyond me.

Just out of interest, how do most of the derbies in England get moved to early KOs but the sheep shaggers get a 1945 KO tonight?
