At the end of season 1 Prem when we finished 9th we bought nobody but Firpo. That right there was a massive mistake and having to rely on Cooper, Ayling, Dallas, Meslier, Bamford, Struijk and Forshaw was 7 of your first team players was ridiculous.. cooper, Ayling, Dallas, Firshaw and Bamfird hardly played in season 2 premier league. Bielsa predicted it and the board didn’t back him and ended up sacking him

 

We bought Dan James that summer as well and everything was tickety boo until Cooper & Phillips were injured in the same home game against Brentford.

However you're right we needed more squad depth but if we have bought 3 holding midfielders you can bet all them would have been injured or unavailable due to covid as we didn't seem to have any luck at all.

The discussion or debate was whether or not the board were grossly incompetent so where do you stand on that Doc ?

In my view they were not and at the end of the day we did stay up that season.

 

I was just going to mention James, it was time for Harrison to go back to his parent club after being on loan and we brought him too. With Klaesson and Lewis Bate I think the official figure is zero sales and income and £61m spent

Our first two season in the PL we spent £188m and received zero in sales. We just didn’t spend wisely
