The only positives from the game. When bazunu kicks long we did well. He kicked 5 amazing passes and 2 good throws which found their target and instantly led to attacking plays. The pointless passing to a cb needs to stop or at least not be used 5 times in a row with vary licking his lips waiting for it. Impressed with edozie. Won some tackles good runs and scored a good goal. Frazer. How the hell a guy his size wins headers I will never know but good attacking runs and good low crosses.. Please start him every game Baz - shocking short passes and 2 probable should have been stopped but very good long passes and some good saves which stopped it from being another 9-1
With what he has seen over the last couple of games hopefully not but it wouldn't surprise me if he was benched either.
Just watched it back and it was not as bad as I first thought. Just 3 things to sort out, defence, midfield and attack.
We are playing theoretical football and being found out. It sounds ok in the head and on paper, it works on the training field at 50% but it is falling apart in the chaos of an actual game. Opponents are unpredictable and out of our control. So RM is asking players - and I am 100% certain its not the players - to make passes and occupy positions that necessitate a perfect game. If they make a mistake or the opponent does something unexpected then we are in the ****. And that is what football is, making mistakes and reacting to the opponent. Martin has been very clear that he is asking the players to do things differently, outside the norm, presumably counter to what they think is the right way to play. Fair play to him, he seems to think he has this under control but he's gathered the rope and made a noose so either it goes onto the opponent or it goes onto him. I'm not sure how many games he will get away with that.
Well worked out easy this footy stuff, can we move on to the war in Ukraine and the climate crisis. But more important get rid of the nasties eating my veg and the bastard magpies getting at my strawberries which have been shrouded in bubble wrap the new loungers came in.
Rewatched the goals. At fault: 1: Charles sh*t pass. Just hoof it up there in the first minute lad. Put the pressure on them (I'm partly putting this on Martin's daft keep-ball bollocks) 2. Smallbone sh*t pass to KWP. Then jogs back rather than sprint. Any DM losing the ball like that should bust a nut getting it back or at least fouling the attacking player. 3. Was a decent bit of play by Leicester. A nice passing move and then a bit of class from Mavididi and Ndidi. No obvious fault. 4. Sulemana, obvs. So, sloppy play for three of those goals. How to stop sloppy play? Common sense is all. No when to be cute and when not to. It's unreal we tried that bollocks in the first minute after last week. That said, the attacking play from Leicester was bloody impressive, so fair play. Really disappointed with Downes so far. I thought he was going to absolutely boss the midfield. Doesn't really seem to offer anything. No creative play either. It was refreshing when Alcaraz came on to see some actual passes being played forward through the middle. But for DM, we're going to be f*cked if Charles gets injured.
We are a team going backwards ATM, and Ipswich are not a bad team at all……I fear another poor performance and we will get humped again.
Out of the top four English leagues, this season we’ve conceded more goals than any of the other 91 teams, along with Sutton Utd, who have also conceded 16. However we’ve only played 6 games and they’ve played 7. Shambles.
Every time we gave the ball away they scored tbh. No one seemed to have a clue what to do when Leicester broke and ran at us. And wtf was Bazunu being asked to do, play sweeper on his own? I think we just don’t have the players to play the system the coach wants; not against Leicester anyway.
Mavididi cost Leicester about 7 million quid I think. What an absolute bargain. I know there were a couple of moments where he shot instead of squaring the ball, but he looks the business to me. Positives for me were Bazunu, who did what nobody else seemed to want to and set up a couple of attacks, and Frazer who is great at making a nuisance of himself - needs people to commit to going with him though. All other thoughts have pretty much been covered.
