The fact that in the first minute we do the stupid pass-it-at-back thing is simply unbelievable. Every single team is going to press the sh*t out of us in the first couple of minutes, so f*cking hoof it up the pitch for once. Ironic that our goal came from a long ball. I feel like we could just put our best eleven out there, with the instructions 'play football', and they'd do better than Russ-ball.
I think unless you have Man City this philosophy doesn’t work full stop. It totally relies on other teams overcommitting to press, but what is the point as we do not accelerate out when they do? WE then overcommit in attack and they come up and score. The idea was to be totally dominant in every game in possession - and without JWP we aren’t good enough to do that. And without Tella we don’t have anyone working hard enough on the wing to fix KWP’s awful defending - which you lot seen to forget has bow lasted 2 years.
I think that will have a negligible effect on the outcome unless a lot of other things instantly improve.
