Now let me think, there must be a reason why this one is special?????? Sadly I think this one will be more about Lowe v Schuey for a lot of people. To me it's just a 3 point game like the rest and there have been plenty of games against ex manager's new sides to make this one special. No doubt the away following will be happy to sing their song for Mr Lowe and fall about laughing. Anyway, regardless of all of that I do think we can win even if Preston are currently top. They are not an easy side to take points off at their place so I would guess even a point would be considered acceptable for many. However, I'm going to go for the 3 points just for the hell of it. I agree. I’ve no particular resentment toward Ryan Lowe. He did a good job for us and seems to be doing a decent job at Preston. We still don’t know the reasons for his departure from Argyle, perhaps it will all come out in the wash one day. In the end, we’ve come out of it at least as well off as we would have been under Lowe, perhaps better. We can thank the Argyle management for that by acting very quickly to forestall any move to take Shuey with him.
There you go guys my thread on tomorrow's local derby https://www.not606.com/threads/plymouth-argyle-deepdale-16-9-2023.408550/#post-16991722
Excellent stuff. If you fancy a second job, I'm sure we could slot you in on the Argyle board! I don't know how Ryan Lowe's got you playing but we've still got the same philosophy: quick, skilful players keeping the ball on the grass. I can't imagine Lowe's switched to hoof-ball so it ought to be a good game. He kept strictly to 3:5:2 at Argyle but Shuey went to 3:4:2:1 last season. He's mixed it up further this year. We should have got points from both Southampton and Birmingham but gifted them very late goals. On the other hand, although I'm not saying we didn't deserve the 3 points from Blackburn, I think most Argyle fans would agree the 3-0 score line flattered us. We're not that good. Yet. It's a young squad (4th youngest in the division I believe, with an average age of 24 and a bit) and there's more to come.
Some of the stuff we watched last season was dire still have not taken to him but if he gets results then that’s fine
Well I can only say he did a good job for us Of course, managers operate within the framework the owners set. I can’t comment on yours but our owner is a gift from God. He’s rich but not oil money rich but he’s put in something approaching £10m I guess as equity: no loans he can’t get his money back. He doesn’t interfere in the football side/ in fact when asked last season who we’d be signing he said “ I don’t know. Why would I know that? I employ good people who know about football. They have a budget and they get on with it.”
The reason Lowe left here is quite well known notdistant but is not being shouted in public. There are laws against such stuff. I think that Lowe's brand of football can be quite stuffy and boring. He loves a 1 - 0. He doesn't have the same flair as Schuey for changing things and was always a bit slow to do that. He did improve the brand though which says a whole lot about Adams doesn't it.
This year is make or break for him as for us we have spent a bit more money than usual in the transfer market, but we'll see by the way £62 to travel by coach is eye watering
When Lowe left, the vast majority of Argyle fans were in despair. The club had seemed to be on the up after crashing out of the Championship 13 years ago, plummeting to League 2, almost to non-league, and coming within days of being wound up and ceasing to exist. The recovery from that looked threatened. The new ownership, who are top class, stepped in immediately to appoint Stephen Schumacher, who almost certainly would otherwise have been your assistant manager within days if not hours. Since then though, we haven't looked back. Not only promoted last season in a league containing Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton, Derby County, Portsmouth and Charlton but going up as Champions with 101 points no less. I'm not bragging: we know the Championship will be much harder and I read this week that we probably have the second or third lowest budget in this league: half that of most mid-table Championship sides and a tenth of the top parachute-payment few. The point though is that there's a suspicion Lowe was the PR man and Schumacher the brains. What we fans thought was a disaster actually left us with the brains. Schumacher is the dream manager: wins games, plays good football, modest, never slags off the opposition (by some super-human feat, not even Joey Barton), never complains about the budget........ As Sensible said, it's just a another game and 3 important points at stake. Good luck to you and Ryan Lowe, but not today.
Pleggy in for Scarr again, Miller for Edwards and Cundle for Randell. Added pace in those three changes and goal threat from Cundle.
Terrific. 1-0 down after 1 minute. Header from open play it seems. Better than the 90th minute at least: plenty of time to recover.
Azaz down injured after a foul by Ledson, who was booked. Quite a rash of fouls in fact or is it a wobbly by the ref?
Stats can of course lie but once again I have to wonder how we can go in 2-0 down there. I’ll say it again: it’s all very well trying to be the great entertainers but a bit of pragmatism wouldn’t hurt. It looks as if the second has come from a free kick in their half and they’ve gone through unobstructed and scored. A back four doesn’t mean full backs constantly in the attacking third.
Especially I should add away at the league leaders’ place. Full marks for ambition but surely you take it steady for the first 20 minutes or so.
