The lady Margaret Hamilton (below, from NASA circa 60's) was upright and could both cope and code at the same time. She's not listing like the pile of code next to her !
The Good Friday Agreement was voted for on a public referendum. If it had been pushed through by politicians, the result probably wouldn't have been accepted by the extremes on both sides, so was necessary to have a high turnout and a unarguable majority. If Brexit had been pushed through by politicians, rather than public referendum, there is a chance that civil unrest could have happened, due to the strength of feelings and division created. The same with the Scottish referendum back in 2014. I'm not sure referendums themselves are an issue, they work fine in Switzerland. The cack-handed way the result of the referendum has been handled is another topic.
Look hard enough and there are enough statistics out there to justify any point of view. Anecdotally, there are a lot of chronically sick ppl in the US and UK - relative food poverty, obesity, alcohol, cigarettes, bad living conditions etc.
It's not really a surprise that the countries with an unhealthy population suffered more than those with a healthy population.
It's a complex issue and I don't know enough about it to have a solid opinion - I can read well-argued opposing views and agree with both.
