We have a crap record away to Everton recently so we must not fall into a false sense of security with this fixture!

Anyone got any updates on Gabriel after being injured playing for Brazil?

Yeah, thankfully the injury he got was only a minor impact on. He was in training with the Brazil squad yesterday and is reportedly going to start against Peru tomorrow. Fingers crossed no injuries!

Just FYI - our last win against Everton at Goodison Park was when Wenger was still manager. It was the 2017/18 season when we won 5-2.

Since then, our results have been:

    Everton 1-0 Arsenal (2018/19)
    Everton 0-0 Arsenal (2019/20)
    Everton 2-1 Arsenal (2020/21)
    Everton 2-1 Arsenal (2021/22)
    Everton 1-0 Arsenal (2022/23)

We really need to buck this trend.

That really is shocking form and results considering the mess Everton have been in this past few years, somehow Arsenal always mess up when a team the likes of Everton are beatable by most in the division. As you say, we really need to WIN, anything less and I think it's a bad result considering the likes of Pool and Spuds will be our most likely challengers for top 4 at the moment.

It's weird because we used to do quite well at Everton away when they were a better side than this. But after Wenger left, Emery struggled when he went there and Arteta's struggled each time he's been there too. Like you say, they've been awful for the past 6/7 years and yet we can't get the better of them. Not sure if it's become a bogey ground for us, but in any case, we hate going to Merseyside.

That has to change though if we want to compete for the top honours. Even a point isn't good enough.

We will have to overcome a low block , rough house tactics from Everton (which they will get away with... even leg breaker tackles and face stamps), set pieces and threat on the break.
In other words a typical Everton game.

<laugh>. If only football were that easy.

Even if we do win, which is by no means a guarantee, I’m almost certain it won’t be a stroll in the park.

Your reverse jinxing didn’t work against Man Utd, here’s hoping for the same outcome against Everton <cheers>

Sean Dyche new manager bounce first game after being appointed, Everton putting on one of the best performances of any team I saw in the entire league last season against us. Then were **** again straight after typically.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that IMO. After that game (in February), we drew with Brentford and lost to City, but then we won the next 7 or 8 games in a row before drawing at Anfield. It was that second half at Anfield in April that everything began to fall apart for us.

I couldn't remember when we played them. But I remember us having a couple of bad results afterwards.

I was just thinking we’ll need a good ref, because i remember 2 seasons ago the face stamps and leg breaker fouls that went totally unpunished and then last year the rough house tactics again being let go.

    so i checked
    • Referee: Simon Hooper
    • Assistants: Adrian Holmes, Simon Long
    • Fourth official: Anthony Taylor
    • VAR: Stuart Attwell
    • Assistant VAR: Nick Greenhalgh
Hooper has only referred us 3 or 4 times and can’t remember any major issues. Hopefully he’s intolerant of any rough house stuff from Everton.

    He's officiated three Arsenal games.

Arsenal 5-0 Nottingham Forest (October 2022)
Aston Villa 2-4 Arsenal (February 2023)
    Arsenal 3-3 Southampton (April 2023)

I can't recall any major blunders, but then again, it's too small a sample size to say whether he'll be any good for us or not.

    Just want fair and consistent.
Watching the Newcastle game. Gordon runs into the goalkeeper, already diving when he makes contact with the Brentford goalkeeper. Penalty given, no VAR overturn.
Rules changing week to week with VAR making subjective decisions.

Slightly naff weekend with city and pool winning tough away games and Spurs doing an 'us' at home.
