Well it would be, if it was not true.

The African leagues standards currently lag way behind the hundreds of years advancement that European and South American countries have, hence they are also behind tactically and in specific skills, like goal keeping and goal keeper training.

Name me a top drawer African keeper. I keep asking as it proves my point, and you don't know.

I will say the Moroccan keeper looked decent at the last world cup as a start point, can't think of another?

Onana's attempts at shot stopping thus far this season only enhance my point. Although I'm sure we'll see he's great with his feet at some point, which is why he was purchased apparently.

I said when we signed him I had doubts and think he would prove to be a dodgy keeper based on what I'd seen up to that point, my opinion hasn't changed.

And I've not once mentioned the word black, in case that's what you're suggesting I'm saying.

    “I’ve never trusted African keepers”

Is this a million miles away from “ I’ve never trusted African people with my shopping” ? <cool>

And most people unfortunately equate the word African with black although we all know that from Egypt to Kenya to Ghana the peoples are totally different ethnic groups and races.

Not saying it’s racist . Just saying that it’s sailing close to the wind. Sensitive and subjective issue <ok>

I think the reason none of us know much about the quality of African or Asian football is because it simply doesn't get the TV exposure and so none of us can compare individual players or the general standard of the game to the PL or the better known European leagues. Doesn't make them bad players, on the contrary, just look back at some of the fantastic African players that have graced the PL and European teams in the last few decades.

Without wishing to extend this argument:

From 2010, as a 13-14 year old he went to Barcelona academy (and to various Spanish clubs) then to Ajax and inter Milan before joining United. So to compare African and Asian football to European football is totally irrelevant to this discussion. He is to all intents and purposes a “European” player raised and trained in Europe and would not have been exposed to those African/Asian football environments at all.

Just like a 14 year old comes to the Uk from developing country X. Gets a full secondary education at a top school, goes to top medical school, gets trained at various top hospitals. He is a top consultant. Someone comes along and says “ I don’t trust doctors from X. No award winning doc has ever come out of X. The standard of medicine in X is well below par etc etc.”. Not very fair IMO.

How's about someone names me a decent African keeper, to prove me wrong, or just shut the **** up. Stop being so sanctimonious and desperate to label someone as racist.

Referring to other completely unrelated professions is irrelevant, and nothing more than whataboutery.

I don’t give a **** what you think about African doctors, I'm not talking about African doctors. It's completely irrelevant, so it's not 'like that' at all.

I'm talking about African keepers. That's it. Keepers who have played their football in Africa. They are historically erratic at best, and dodgy as **** at worst.

You're desperate for me to say the word black, right?

    Just **** off.

So, you've 'called me out', right.

    What have you called out?

How have you called me out?

Tbh I agree with him. It's not racist. I totally get why it's reasonable to say African keepers do not have a rep for being good. The impression I have of them is they're not very disciplined and there's always a potential brainfart there. I can still hope Onana is different though and actually is a solid keeper.

It's no different to saying Irish or Zimbabwe cricket teams are just not that great.

For many years (maybe even today) Scotland have been thought of as producing very poor keepers, i suppose that wouldn't be considered tacist though <whistle>
