Do you think he's too sexy for his shirt He's a model, you know what I mean And he does his little turn on the catwalk Yeah, on the catwalk, on the catwalk, yeah He does his little turn on the catwalk
Kinnear mentioned the Leicester model and said to do that takes time we didn’t have. It also got mentioned when he was asked why Leeds made hardly anything from transferring players out and Leicester making tons. He said Leicester players had a history of years of experience of prem football and our players hadn’t
They did yes. Basically the options were to take the more pragmatic view of signing players that will get you 6/10 or 7/10 every week and most probably keep you in the Premier League, but we would be in the bottom half for a number of years with that approach. Or go for the slightly more risky approach of signings players that had the potential to be 8/10 or 9/10 every week, but to be able to afford that type of player we had to look at those players in a slightly lower quality league than the EPL. He also mentioned that MB had said that he wanted to overhaul the whole squad and the players he was looking at would be in the £50m region per player. Whether again that is true or not is another matter, but again that would suggest that as the club couldn't afford that level of commitment, why they shopped at the level they did That was the approach that the club took, and it just so happened that the majority of the players signed, performed at best as 5/10 rated players. Given that Radz wanted the club playing European football sooner rather than later, and Orta's bullish approach, the club went for the more risky option (NB This is my opinion, not Kinnear's actual words). Kinnear did say that he favoured the more pragmatic approach, but it's an easy thing to say with hindsight, although with only 3 major decision makers at the club, I can also see him being overruled, in favour of the route the club went for
Thanks. Good explanation. Agree that we should have taken players who could keep us in the division even if it would be the lower half for a few seasons. Interesting to hear they couldn’t / wouldn’t back Bielsa.
Again that's an easy thing to say with hindsight as a supporter. You only need to look at the number of posts on here over the last few years, saying that we need to be more positive and we shouldn't be settling for mid to lower table finishes. Imagine what it would be like after 3 or 4 years of finishing say 15th every season. As much as I would love to have the money to buy and run the club, I'd be an absolute idiot to do so, as very little an owner does is good enough for the fans With regards to the Bielsa comments this is only based on what Kinnear said in the podcast, but it wasn't just 3 or 4 players that MB wanted, but the whole squad, whether that means first 11 or whatever, who knows. I imagine Bielsa probably said, this is what the club needs to be competitive, not that this is what he wants, because he would have not extended his contract for a further 12 months if the club weren't meeting his requirements. So its probably more of a politicians answer from Kinnear there As Phil Hay said in the post interview podcast, AR is a wealthy man, and the majority of us would be happy to be as poor as him, but when it comes to the Premier League, he did not have the financial resources to be competitive at the level he wanted the club to be at
Whether you like Kinnear or not, or believe what he says, there was a fair amount to take from the interview. I like the fact he did the interview, I do believe he genuinely gets the fan base, I also think he cares about the club. I like the guy, others on here clearly don’t. But think all would benefit (whatever you think of him) from listening to the full 1hr 42 mins of the interview.
With regard to our 5/10 players with potential to be 8/10 always wondered how the players would have performed under a proper coach to start with ……… I believe they may have kept us up but that’s only my opinion
Well, they've all gone out on loan and they are all failing at their new clubs. Suppose they've all got **** coaches too including a certain Mourinho. The only lad who has excelled is Marc Roca who is thriving in the less physical La Liga. We might even make a profit on him come January as its believed Betis are determined to make the move permanent as soon as they possibly can.
Don’t be so sure of Betis as they have an option to extend for another year if Leeds not promoted so he gets to stay and his value drops as his contract runs down. Shafted if not promoted
Betis are worried that another club will meet Leeds valuation for a permanent transfer next summer so are trying to get the funds together to get it done as early as January to keep him there. Roca has been Betis best player this season. Other clubs are taking note. Betis want to make it permanent.
Even the Saints reached a domestic final in 2017 and played in EL the same season We came close to those 9-0s on a few occasions though
Let's hope we are finished upgrading Elland Road and rather build a new stadium with a higher capacity like 55K-65K with the option of upgrading. It is always more expensive to upgrade things than to build something new.You may achieve the same revenue with and upgrade, but you will never achieve the same profit. And this has to do with how efficient the stadium is to run.I wouldn't be surprised if Elland Road is one of the most expensive stadiums per seat to run in England if not the most expensive and then I'm thinking of clubs in the top 3 divisions. This is a stadium that started life in 1897 and has been renovated and expanded a number of times. Many will probably say that we must keep the stadium because there is so much history in the walls. The problem with that is like starting a 100m with 10kg lead around each foot.It doesn't help if you have the best equipment in the world, you have no chance of competing with the others. But to fill such a stadium you must be in the Premier League. In the Championship, we may manage to fill half the stadium plus/minus a few thousand.I believe that this is crucial if Leeds is to be a club to be reckoned with in the future. Because right now everyone is running away from us, and we are being left behind.
So the 49ers knew about these loan clauses in the contracts when they were signed. In other words EVERYONE knew about these clauses. Hmmm so it wasn't just an Orta, Kinnear and Rads thing. Are there any fans who still don't think the 49ers knew about it?
