Yeah I was thinking this too, puts Onuachu a little in to context. Trabzonspor are about to have a attack of Orsic / Onuachu / Pepe. Pretty decent on paper at least.
I can safely say he is better than Ross Stewart, but that’s not a high bar. Also different leagues etc
I have had the feeling SaintMagic has been on the negativity windup for weeks. Pretty sure he is kust poking!
We’ll see. You maybe right, I don’t have much hope for him but willing to give him a chance. As I said different leagues so I think Onuachu could have been good but we never really gave him much of a shot. “Sunday league” player Adam Armstrong has performed well so far so we/I probably need to adjust our expectations slightly on what is needed to be a good player at this level
Agreed. Gutted we never played to Paul's strengths. What is even more baffling is that from whatij have seen from the first few games, the striker rarely touches the ball. (Unless he is tracking back for a tackle). Our play appears to be focused on the wings and crosses. Pity we didn't get to see him once under Martin before selling. Even a cup game when he was on the bench but not brought on.
Guess he must be absolutely ****e in training - or there’s been discipline issues behind the scenes. RM seemed willing to give everyone a completely fresh start.
Yeah, completely overhauling our system in order to shoehorn in a player who has provided no indication that he's better than our other options doesn't make a lick of sense to me.
I thought Crouch has scored more headed goals in the PL than anyone else - more than Shearer ? Crouch did have `soft` feet for a tall bloke, and gave the centre backs a hard time by pinning them at crosses etc , and bringing others into play. I recall in his last season at Burnley he bullied Jack Stephens into giving away a penalty. I didn`t see anything about Paul that was promising - nothing. And it seems he didn`t show it to the manager in training either!
Yeah but imagine if Shearer had been 6"7 haha. Crouch played in the Prem for something like 18 seasons. So his headed goals total (53), still only works out as 3 per season. Being 6"7 you're still going to have a big advantage when attacking a goal, even staying on your feet. Especially when crosses come in early (which with Saints they rarely do). But winning a header in the opposition box is different to being on the end of a hoofed long ball. The latter allows the defending player more time. Tall Paul would have scored a few goals from headers no doubt, but I can't see that he would have been effective overall as a target man, or, as Schad says, whether it would be enough to warrant changing the team's entire playing style. That's just how I see it. Could be totally wrong.
I see Lavia is already injured. Quality player but does spend a lot of time in the medical room. Hope it is just a short injury as want him to do well.
Could be out for the season. Real shame for the lad. Bet Liverpool are pleased now they didn't sign him
