"This match was meant to be all about Kevin Phillips's long-awaited comeback from injury for Sunderland, and when he opened the scoring with a trademark goal it seemed certain he would be the headliner. But in the end it was his strike partner Niall Quinn who provided the finishing touch to an enthralling game in which QPR more than played their part.

Rangers, revitalised under manager Gerry Francis, came agonisingly close to taking three points from a fixture that just a few months ago would have seemed beyond them. But just when the Francis revolution looked to be complete, Irish international Quinn poached an injury-time equaliser by heading home a teasing cross from the substitute Bridges.

His goal completed a breathtaking afternoon of football which also included a sending-off for the Sunderland captain Kevin Ball and goals for QPR's Danny Maddix and Kevin Gallen."

Do we know if the behind closed doors game went ahead? I'm sure Mowbray said they were having it early this week, then training then a long weekend off.

 

Dunno but it reminds of a good crack by Mowbray at the weekend, along the lines of,

"In training we used to play old against young ...

Club have been much more proactive in their comms over recent days.....

 

It's looking good and we can hopefully take the momentum from the Southampton game.

It's hard to know how QPR will approach the game. Ainsworth seems to have them existing on around 35% possession, lots of closing down and trying to win by the odd goal.

I trust Mowbray to find the right way to tackle the game and, as we usually score goals, can't see a good reason to be too worried.

Ainsworth is a weird one, totally enamoured with himself. After a recent match he said, ' I really did think how can I get the best out of the players I've got, rather than think what's brought me success over the years."

He's won the promotion from L2 by finishing third ...

I couldn't remember Dickie Ord playing for QPR then noticed he didn't ...

... I wonder what happened there.

 

That's a strange one . . . . he must have been injured and stayed that way

Googled . . . .
In the summer of 1998 he signed for QPR, but was injured in a pre-season friendly. A two-year injury nightmare prevented him from ever playing in a competitive game for them and he finally announced his retirement as a player in 2000, aged only 30.

Most importantly, he's also a season ticket holder at The Stadium

 

Jack Calrke looked gutted to have scored against them last season!
