Yeah you’re right, £19million well spent! His fantastic ability scored the goals to keep us up didnt they
Scamacca, Rutter, Sancho, Lukaku - far bigger clubs spend far more making mistakes too. It’s an inexact science…
Particularly when signing strikers. Last year I went through all of the moderately-priced (under 25m if I remember correctly) striker signings in recent years, and good god that was grim reading. More than any other position decent-to-good strikers are reliant on form, system and surrounding talent, and when you're shopping in the mid-tier striker aisle, you're looking at players who are even more reliant on those factors than their more expensive compatriots. Most of them fail...not quite as badly as Tall Paul, mind you, but late-January desperation and a manager that wants to play anti-football leads to even worse choices.
I think I did something similar when we signed Adam Armstrong and some were kicking off about the fee and also about not getting Edouard. Or it might well have been a year after the fact and trying to work out who moved that same summer as a striker for a similar fee to Armstrong. Like you said - grim reading The miss appears to have been Awoniyi but there aren’t many in that range. And even he seemed to click into place late on
No mention of Moussa’s move on here, or have I missed it. I thought he had scored a goal a season and it turned out to be. Never st the world alight but didn’t seem to kick off.
Story of my life. I coulda been a contenda. Edit. Saw the rumours but nothing about him definitely leaving, and then he’s gone and never called to say goodbye.
A bit more chatter with Tall Paul heading to Trabzonspor, Kerem Sen could be heading to Goetzepe as part of the deal.
Yikes. Important to get him off the wages but had assumed we’d loan him out and get more of our money back then that on a permanent in January or something
