I thought your company supplied all the concrete for the CCS, or were you just driving the lorry those days?
it was an eureka moment when they realised concrete and steel [ iron? ] both have the same coeeficient when heating and freezing! 1 for I think the concrete cancer might be different maybe didnt have enough covering so got rusty bits which expands, check out some of the chain link concrete posts .. some have 4 thin wires inside but not always within the concrete!
We should do what the rest of the media does (every day, every news programme) and blame everything on climate change.
That's on top of Bristol Waste owing about £4m Never mind RP, we'll all stump up another £100 per household in Council Tax so that they can waste it on renaming roads that don't need to be renamed, plus diversity and inclusion projects. That's what Labour councils do. That's aside from the money they've given to the Mosque in Birmingham where the Iman tells his flock how to stone a woman to death properly. Labour Councils cash grab and spend our money on rubbish ideas. Brother Khan's disgraceful Dick Turpin scheme in London being the latest, whilst ignoring the air quality and pollution on the tube, and extending the scheme to areas towards the Kent coast where air quality is already as good as most other places. And that the people that his crazy plans affect most are those who can't afford £12.50 to go to work or their local supermarket or take their kids to school. Criminal
As a result of inadequate funding and inheriting a massive pay dispute from the Tories. For things to come see Thurrock. The debt level this government has presided over while simultaneously delivering woeful public services is criminal. Not the sort of criminality that anyone gets punished for, naturally.
Bowood can you explain this please .. and is it Birmingham or Thurrock it refers to? There is now about 5 councils in trouble all for different things, Birmingham the latest .. Woking owes the most I believe??? very bad multi party decisions that fell flat on there faces regarding property build/ rental/ investment!
This new scandal has hit the headlines over here and I have to wonder who decided not to do anything over the summer recess and announce that it was a huge issue the day before school commencing? My usual cynical mind takes me into an area that makes my skin crawl and although it often proves to be correct it leans towards unscrupulous ethnic groups that never live by the rules and are more than willing to grease the right palms to get their way. I couldn't help but notice that, apart from my old alma mater of Dr Morgans Grammar School ( Haygrove now), there were few, if any, structural issues in Somerset or Wiltshire. Take a look around the world over the last 10 years or so and see where most of the building failures due to shoddy workmanship occurred and you may find they are limited to various countries who don't live by the rules, especially if it saves money in construction. The people involved in the certification of this sub-standard product should be brought to task and those who fell for the banter should also face the music, and it would be interesting to see if there is any common factor between the suppliers and the users who sold this fake bill of goods that has potentially put kid's lives at risk. The history of building failures is rife with corruption and death but rarely are the guilty brought before the court of public retribution.
RAAC was a very misunderstood concept ... 70 years ago they didnt have the technology to test and ?understand? the short comings! I am wondering so is my mate who had a job as building site manager. a few years ago just pre covid he built a housing estate with "german made" timber framed houses. all internal walls were a 6" thermal aerated block ..added after the shell of wood, walls floors and roof were completed! He remembers the first floor joists main ones, were part of the framework intermediary ones rested on the blocks, ceiling below the attic ran otherway but had more intermediaries! [ intermediaries were added after blockwork] .....
JGF - that's nothing to do with RAAC. The timber frame construction method is integral and reliant upon itself for structural integrity - I worked with it onsite for 30 years. The "Thermalite" blockwork inner skin is generally non load bearing and contains no rebar, the degradation of which actually causes the problem with RAAC.
it was the load bearing aspects that we were discussing. If I understood correctly to support the roof [ A SHAPE FRAMES ] there was one every couple of feet [ 18 - 24"? ] built into the framework and block work came right up under it . First floor had "x" number integral to frame but extra ones in between resting on the blocks? but somehow tied in as part of the floor! ??? He also commented that RAAC was a life span of circa 30 years...!
Got you now. CCS Cardiff City Stadium. Yes it was my company that supplied it, but then Wales was its own sector, but went up to Worcester and Herefordshire . I was in the South West sector, which was east of Wales sector to west of M25
