Not sure about Coventry but they did yesterday. We started with Ballard LCB, O’nien in the middle and Hume RCB and drifting into midfield.
Anybody else think our fitness levels are right up there as well now. I appreciate we are a young team, I also accept that winning 4-0 gives you a yard or two on your opponents but we were still hunting in packs and closing down yesterday in the 90th minute. Digressing I also thought Tony got the subs spot on yesterday.
When Mowbray has a look at his new signings in training...he will have headache on what to do for the QPR game. Not sure how you would change that team from yesterday. I haven't a clue about any of our new signings, but if our recruitment team have done their usual due diligence, then we might have a few new gems on our hands.
Just watched the full 90 after missing the game through work yesterday. What a brilliant attacking display of football, we played as well as we did away from home all last season, capitalising on quick breaks with a real direct intent. From what i saw saints had about 3 decent chances but didn't offer much else, on another day it could have been 2-2 before Ekwahs third but we finally had a bit of luck. Dont know how Adams stayed on the pitch, thought the new rules were pretty clear in regards to kicking away the ball... Oniens yellow was an outrageous decision as well. Thought Ballard was an absolute beast all game, and what a brilliant 10 minutes from Bennette and Rigg. Seen a lot of comments about 'Dack v Pritchard' but for me they are completely different No.10's. Dack really seems to thrive getting past the ball where as Pritch seems to dictate play through a high press, winning back the ball and playing a killer pass. Brilliant to get the result just before the international break, pleased for Mowbray (especially now he is no longer having to talk about ****ing transfers every 5 minutes) and great to see 41,000 fans rewarded with a big win. Hawaaaayyyy
With this new right back we’ve signed does this mean Hume drops to the bench ? And who do we drop for the Chelsea lad pleased it’s not my call
Yeah, I think Jude did something like that for Brum, signed a contract he didn't need to when he knew he was off, just to make sure the club would get decent money when he left as a "thank you" for what they did for him. Would like to think Rigg would do the same for us, if it comes to that.
Eventually maybe but you can't drop any of the first 11 after yesterday performance, surely?! I can see Hume moving to CDM / CB if Pembele makes the RB spot his own.
I think Pembele will end up taking the RB spot if we stay with 4 at the back. Not that I don’t rate Hume but I don’t think we make a signing of that quality to come here and sit on the bench, plus he’s a full back who bombs forward at every opportunity and I think Roberts needs that. There’s going to be so many selection headaches. No way he can change the team after that result. Also if he decides to play 3 at the back and wing backs I’m not sure Roberts will be a starter because A) he can’t defend and B) he’s not quick enough. He could end up playing Hume RCB and Pembele RWB.
Even more so in this case, I'd say. Felt like the sword of Damocles was hanging over us on Friday morning. To have gotten that result without any of the new recruits being available has completely altered expectations. I did think sat morning that we'd get a good performance but I was not expecting a 5 nowt. Just tremendous. The jewison cameo, Riggs goal, Ekwah's performance and interviews, Neil and Ballards reaction to Riggs goal, Jack Clarke. Also, the clobber on Aouchiche was an absolute joy to behold. If he plays like he dresses we're gonna be in for a treat. Literally nothing to be negative about. Can't wait for the next game.
Yes he was rb yesterday. It was a 4231 in possession, hume dropping into CDM at times. When we were out of possession it was more 442. O9 at RCB makes sense as hes quicker than ballard so covers the ground quicker when hume steps into CDM
I like Dack. I can imagine him in a former life being a pirate, grinning as he prods his cutlass into some poor sod walking the plank. His play strikes me as being a bit swashbuckling. Apologies to Smug. Sorry mate, I posted this before I saw yours.
