Based on what I’ve seen so far Downes is not a DM who can defend. Been at fault for 4 goals in 2 games (not completely his fault for them but he was definitely part of the problem) He looks to be more of centre mid who retains possession and moves the ball on rather than one who gets stuck in and tackles/defends
I've just phoned Russell Martin and asked him what went wrong. He said "Lincs and Os have been far too positive lately and we can't have that."
Just trying to be realistic as usual. We are all fart no ****, and we left all our productive players out today. We can handle a couple of passengers but not all of them at once. When will the club learn that we need grit and a spine
Isn't it also basically what the Gills fan said after their cup win after us? Swansea dropped like a stone earlier this year in a Ralphesque way so it'll be interesting to see how many more clubs adopt these tactics and get success.
If that's right and he's not a DM (not seen either game with him) then that's a bigger concern than the result today and would make us very short there imo.
Think it’s safe to say everyone will bar a couple of teams. Knowing what to do and actually doing it for 90 mins is another matter. But I think we definitely need to have a different way of setting up when we play the better teams as otherwise we will just concede too many against the better sides
I'm just treating this as a sh*t happens result. I f it continues I will be worried but hopefully things will be addressed during the international break
Other early kick off that didn't result in an absolute hammering for one side, how did this happen according to the BBC website Birmingham vs Millwall GOAL OVERTURNED BY VAR: Ryan Leonard (Millwall) scores but the goal is ruled out after a VAR review.
Personally I'm blaming you for it mate. You've been too upbeat and positive recently and the football gods ain't having it. Sort it out mush ffs and start whinging again
The two sides we played that you could say are 'okay' and we conceded 9 goals and scored 4. Is this possibly how good we really are? Beating teams that might be in a relegation struggle this season by 2-1 scorelines is perhaps not the best indicator of how a season goes. Also this really does highlight the fears of some fans (I wasn't one so I'm not claiming 'I told you') that Russell Martin really has literally no clue how to play a tight defence. We are 6th and have a goal difference of -2 and have conceded 12 goals. That is anyone's opinion has to be not good enough.
Yeah today sucks. Supporting saints is a hilarious roller coaster. Finally you think things are looking up as we make some sensible signings.. then we go and put in a performance like that. Genuinely was absolutely ****ing dire. Can’t think of a single positive
