He'll be 33 in 3 weeks. https://insidefutbol.com/2023/09/01/norwich-city-working-on-late-capture-of-sunderland-star/619281/
His contract expired in June, so he's presumably a free agent now. I can see that it avoids another loan, but I'm concerned about the lack of pace in our back line, which needs to push up high in Wagner's tactical approach and could be vulnerable to counterattacks. We've made over £30m on the departure of Rashica, Aarons and Omobamidele, which should put us in a strong financial position. We have an experienced international striker to cover for Sargent's injury and a promising young striker in Ogwuru, so yes I'm reasonably happy with the final outcome.
Deal sheet is in for Omobamidele, so at least another hour in which to complete the deal. He appears to be left-sided, or at least that's where Sunderland used him last season. That was my biggest concern, given Gibson's record with form/injury. Its a stopgap, and allows us to assess our CB situation next summer. If we're still in the championship we might be highly dependent on Warner/Tomkinson/Sorensen/Adeboyega developing, and we've sold another of our strong prospects, but we'll see. It's not an exciting move but it's understandable.
I was wondering if Norwich coaches have been so impressed with Adegboyega that they don't think we need another CB
Tomkinson is out of contract next summer. I'm afraid we may have seen the last of him in a Norwich shirt.
