Steven Schumacher has confirmed at a news conference this morning that he has a loan striker lined up.....but it doesn't look likely that that will happen before the Birmingham game on Saturday.

Why are Middlesboro loaning out Josh Coburn ?

They are second from bottom....and it has been suggested that they are going to be having a hard season.

If Josh Coburn hasn't signed to day....and it is nearly 5pm now.....then he cannot play tomorrow night which would be an ideal time.

I think even with Whittaker and Mumba in the squad we are lightweight in the goal scoring department....Hardie is doing well...but he is playing too much football....we really need two more strikers...just to cover for injuries and burn out.

Josh Coburn came on last night as a late sub for Middlesboro.....still not 100% sure that he will be coming.....Boro still need to find a player before they release him.

This leaves us in a quandary... we need more options up front and tomorrow is the close of the window.....I still think we need two strikers to cover for the wear and tare for a hard Championship campaign.

Have we been mucked about about by Middlesborough? Michael Carrick is talking as though it's his decision but it's poor if he's led Argyle to think if he signed Greenwood from Leeds, Coburn would come to us.

Greenwood has signed and if they've now reneged on the other half at this juncture, that's unprofessional. In business, never ever make promises you can't keep.

I have read similar on pasoti. If I was a striker I wouldn't come anywhere near Argyle with attitudes like that. The armchair managers, or some of them at least, think we need this or that and of course we have missed out on everything. Personally I would rather rely on the real management regarding what we "really" need and trust them to fill the billet if the right person is available. Almost every loan we have had in the last god knows how many seasons has been a disappointment before they have even kicked a ball for us if those people are to be believed.

That’s a poor choice of words Plym. Looking at it from the Argyle point of view, we know that they do extensive research into players and maintain a list of potential targets. Even though promotion last year wasn’t predicted, they were ready with a list of potential recruits. I’m sure Sensible will back me up, we haven’t recruited a complete dud since this regime took over and we’ve unearthed some gems.

We have been sold down the river by Middlesbrough very late in the day. I daresay there’s a list of alternatives and those will be fully researched. We won’t be going out in a panic signing any old player. Whether that’s possible now is uncertain but if not, it’s nobody’s fault at Argyle.

There will be poor decisions made today as clubs panic around before the window shuts at 11pm tonight.

I would hope that Argyle will not be amongst those clubs trying to fill a need with a poor choice.

Schumacher must of come to near the bottom of his list of strikers.....it does seem that Josh Coburn was his last choice and held in there hoping that it would come to fruition....but it didn't and valuable time has been lost.......and those chasing are more than those available.....and if money is the key factor then Argyle will be near the bottom of the list.

What is obvious is that we rotated four strikers last season with good results.....this season we have only two strikers with very limited experience at this level.

This will be putting more pressure on Whittaker and Mumba to score more goals

We don’t know that he was last on the list. I suspect something nearer the top of the list.

A couple of weeks ago. Schumacher said that we had to be patient. Long chains develop whereby perhaps a Champions League club are waiting to sign a big name player before releasing one of theirs to a mid-table EPL club who in turn are waiting for that before releasing one of theirs to a top Championship team who in turn…….

That sort of chain fits what’s happened here. What’s different is that Middlesbrough have said that if A happens, they’ll do B. Argyle will have been monitoring A and presumably been updated by Middlesbrough. A has happened but Middlesbrough have decided at the last minute they won’t do B.

I’m sure if Argyle do make a late move, it’ll be for someone who they’ve already vetted. Cosgrove is probably still available I believe. He wouldn’t be my choice but he scored goals for us last season and he’s a big lad if that’s what we want for variety.

Oh my we have signed a striker and guess what...........he is all ours on a 2 year contract and not a loan. He doesn't score much at scrabble though so he must be crap. From Anderlech. Mustapha Bundu of Seira Leon extraction. 6ft 2 inches in stocking feet so seems like a big boy. Oh no he must be a hoof player. I'm trying to get in all the moans and groans before somebody else does........

Been a very long week but we got our man in the end. Seems to me that deals take longer and get more complicated every window!

Nah you're just getting older and slower. You can't have finished already. They are all moaning we need at least two strikers so go get another one.

Well done all of you Lyndhurst.

I’m trying to remember what to be problem was that led to transfer windows in the first place. Probably like VAR: a solution in search of a problem.

It probably had to do with richer clubs buying up opposition players to try to stop a winning formula or to ensure a losing one if they were either in contention for a league win/promotion or a relegation. I base that on nothing more than a "it's what I would have done if in that position".
