Giving them too much say in who to buy is the main problem. Ange seems to have the right attitude....specifies the style of player he wants and then lets the recruitment team find the best fit. Judging by our targets he clearly doesn't want a striker...Happy to go with his judgement on that.
It’s only a problem if we bounce around different styles like we have been. Poch, Jose, Nuno, Conte and Ange all want quite different things from players in each position. Some of it is transferable but some is clearly not.
Paul O’Keefe says any deal for Gallagher is dependent on Hojbjerg leaving, and any incoming CB is down to one of Dier or Sanchez leaving. Obvious stuff really.
The other likely outcome of your (accurate) assessment is that by definition, we will need proportionately more goals per season to win games, as we are likely to concede more per game. So a few chipped in from the FB's will make feck all difference compared to the acquisition of a 20+ per season striker. We're Doomed!!!!
Since we have kept most of the signings on the books, Ange has effectively had a wide choice on who to keep so it's not a big issue. And if the players were worth the fee they can be easily sold if they don't fit the new system. The issue is overpaying for managers' specific pet choices...Ndombele, Sessegnon, Lo Celso, Regulion, Richarlison and probably Porro all in that category.
Really hope we don't get him. Even putting aside he's a Chav at heart, I don't particularly rate him and he comes across as a petulant, whingeing player - who is not as good as he thinks he is. But heh, #InAngeWeTrust
Todd Bollo has almost single-handedly ****ed the transfer market in the Premier League On the plus side, that does mean Tanganga is actually worth at least £80m
Again, I reckon the plan is to give Richarlison until January and have Son centrally more often, which goes some way to explain our persistence for Johnson as he has the versatility to play anywhere across the front line.
weeks ago when Kane was sold, we lost 30 odd goals a season. We also conceded 60+ in a much more defensively minded style. Granted, we already look better defensively due to acquisitions such as Udogie and VDV, but where we may now concede less, we’re likely to score less! And tbf, we might continue to concede due to the playing style, and/or lack of depth.
As I said weeks ago when he was first linked, selling Hojbjerg for £25-30m and then signing Gallagher for £50m doesn't make much sense, as we're signing a young facsimile of Hojbjerg for more than we sold him for Are we sure there's nobody in the Belgian or Austrian or Danish league who is a facsimile of Hojbjerg we can sign for £10m?
That also ties in with Veliz being rested and prepped, as he'll surely be getting minutes when the Christmas Glut kicks in
perhaps. Selling him in January will be a monumental task, unless Everton are in the bottom 3 and fancy giving us a refund.
Who said anything about selling him? Pull the other one. He's here to stay, just like every big money flop before him. Endless loans with no obligation to buy followed by a free transfer to Al Ahli. That's my prediction.
I just don't buy this way of measuring football teams. It's lazy to just deduct the goals Kane scored and say we have to replace them. No we don't, we have to develop a team that wins games. If you have Kane you do it one way if you don't you use another way. The Ange team is already creating more chances than the Conte team this will alter the dynamic of the whole team and we have already seen that with 5 different players scoring our goals so far. That's before Son has scored a goal. Van de Ven already looks to have improved our defence and one player can make a difference here. We have seen that in other teams like Liverpool with their Van and City when Laporte arrived. When Bale was here (the first time) he became our main goal scorer towards the end of his time at Spurs. When he left with Modric thereby losing our two standout players Spurs went on to get better. This happens over and over in football. It's great to have the luxury of truly great player but it's always ALWAYS better to have a great team.
It's what happens when you massively overpay for anyone....cf Pepe, Maguire, Sancho, Lukaku, Hazard, Coutinho.
We’ve had a £20m - twenty million - bid rejected for Lloyd Kelly and are set to make another improved offer.
